About this Cat
Hi! My name is Calypso and I am waiting for my “forever” home. My owners had to surrender me because they were moving and couldn’t take me with them. I had lived with them since I was just a kitten, so don’t understand why they left me behind, from the only home I had ever known. I am slow to adapt to new things/places/people, so may growl, hiss and scratch until I get to know and trust you. It took my foster mom almost a month before I finally trusted her enough to come out from my covered bed (my “safe space”) and let her pet me and love me. Multiple times throughout the day, she sat with me and patiently talked to me while I either ignored her or growled and hissed at her from inside the covered bed and scratched her hand when she tried to pet me anyway, but she persisted, and it paid off. Now, I love to come out and be petted/rubbed! She tells me how much she loves me and I purr my love back. When I have had enough, I head back inside my bed for some “me time.” You “cat-savvy” people know what I mean! I’m a big girl, and to be perfectly honest, I admit I am a bit on the chunky side, even though I don’t think I eat too much. I only like dry food served in a shallow bowl or on a plate – I’ve been eating Purina One Tender Selects Blend (Salmon) Dry Food since coming to Fancy Cats and Dogs Rescue and I like that because it has real salmon! I know I need to go on a diet, but I just don’t like canned/wet food. My foster mom has tried several kinds of canned food to see if I would eat it, but I am not at all interested. I don’t like treats, or at least my foster mom hasn’t found one I like, but do enjoy catnip filled toys! I drink my water well and use the litter box like a good girl. I also like to use my scratching post. Because of my size, I have trouble keeping myself groomed, so I just had a “lion cut” to remove all the matted fur. Since it is summertime, I am enjoying not having so much fur! I think I am still adorable, so include a couple of pictures of my new hairdo. My foster mom has 3 young cats and, while they are very interested in getting to know me, I am not too interested in getting to know them, so growl at them to keep them from getting too close to me, which they respect. I have always been the only cat and prefer to keep it that way. Although I still spend a lot of time snoozing in my covered bed (which I love because it makes me feel safe), I come out when my foster mom calls my name - I wiggle out of the bed and come over for pets - and enjoy just hanging out in my room. Although I have tried exploring a little, the other cats make me uncomfortable to I mostly keep to myself. However, once I get settled into my new home - where I am the queen of my domain - I know that I will enjoy exploring, but please be patient with me. It has been a tough few months for me and it will likely take a bit of time for me to come around, but it will be worth it because I have lots of love to give and will be a perfect addition to your family. Adoption fee: $100, includes all shots, sterilized, dewormed, deflea, microchip

Adopt Calypso and Receive Calypso's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Calypso's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Calypso's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Calypso, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Calypso's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Calypso was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Calypso’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Calypso’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Calypso’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
