About this Dog
Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying. ● Energy level: low ● Potty training: belly band/schedule ● Fenced yard: unfenced ok ● Shared walls: will bark when left alone ● People: all (untested with children) ● Dogs: some ● Other: IVDD survivor (can wobble walk), diabetic, has tried mobility wheels Overview Meet Charlie, a resilient red dachshund who proves that heroes come in all shapes and sizes—and sometimes on wheels! Charlie is an 11-year-old, 23lb gentleman who’s shown incredible strength and spirit. When his owner had to move and couldn’t take him along, this brave boy found himself starting over. As an IVDD survivor, Charlie has overcome significant challenges and continues to live life with joy and determination. Environment Charlie thrives with low-medium activity levels, enjoying short walks around the yard—though he can tire out, so his humans need to watch for signs he needs a break. He’s recently been introduced to mobility wheels, which have opened up new adventures for him! He prefers gated spaces over crates and doesn’t require a fenced yard, making him flexible for different living situations. Because Charlie is an IVDD survivor, he didn’t regain full bladder and bowel control. He wears belly bands and is working on getting into a good potty routine. It’s a small accommodation for such a wonderful companion, and he’s very cooperative about his care needs. Pets & People Charlie is a lovable guy who enjoys snuggles and love with his people. He’s good with adults but hasn’t been tested with children yet. When he’s out and about, he might bark at people and dogs he encounters—just his way of saying hello from a distance! With other dogs, Charlie is quite selective. He’d do best with another calm dog who gives him space initially, or he’d be perfectly content as an only dog getting all the attention. He has lived with other dogs, and it takes time for him to warm up. He’s not looking for a playmate, just peaceful coexistence. Health Charlie is a diabetic champion who takes his twice-daily insulin injections like an absolute pro—his foster mom says he’s amazing about his medical care! He’s on a prescription diet to keep him healthy and feeling his best. Charlie has shown that medical needs don’t define him; they’re just part of his daily routine. One of Charlie's eyes appears to be losing vision, but again, it's not stopping this lovable little guy! He still enjoys playing with tennis balls and eating cucumbers! His IVDD journey has made him stronger, not weaker, and his recent introduction to wheels has given him new mobility and confidence. Charlie is able to get around and wobbly walk without the use of wheels. Location Charlie is available for adoption from Chatham, VA. Please email [email protected] with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Charlie is $150.

$0.0 is Charlie14's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Charlie14, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Charlie14's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Charlie14 was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Charlie14’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Charlie14’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Charlie14’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
