About this Dog
Meet Bento, a striking 1-year-old shepherd mix with a coat of rich red, mahogany, and white, and the kind of face that looks like it stepped out of a storybook. This beautiful boy is still learning how to navigate the world of people, but he’s already mastered the trails—and he’s winning hearts one hike at a time.Though shy and reserved in new environments, Bento is making steady progress in building trust. He’s discovering that human hands can mean belly rubs, treats, and even the occasional cuddle—especially when the car-camping tent doesn’t leave much room to sleep alone! This past weekend, Bento proved himself a trailblazing champ in Utah’s Tushar Mountains. He confidently conquered Mt. Delano, greeted fellow hikers with curious sniffs, and delighted in romping with the other dogs in camp. He prefers not to be pet by strangers (yet), but he’s incredibly social in his own quiet way—content to simply be part of the group and soak in the energy around him.At home, Bento continues to thrive in a calm environment. He’s learning the ropes of potty training (with only an occasional accident), using the doggy door like a pro, and enjoying gentle pets on his back and tummy. He may not seek out affection, but he’s beginning to offer glimpses of trust—spontaneous “boops,†playful bows, and moments of snuggly closeness that are all the more meaningful because they’re on his terms.Bento is a big chewer, so he’ll need a home stocked with tough toys and a little guidance distinguishing them from off-limits items (he once sniffed out dog meds—he’s clever like that!). He’s not destructive out of defiance—just a curious, understimulated pup trying to figure out this whole “indoor life†thing.Bento would thrive in a quiet, patient home with people who understand that trust takes time—and that the reward is a deeply loyal, adventure-loving companion who just wants to be near his people (even if it’s from a respectful distance). He walks beautifully on leash, especially once he settles behind you, and he’s happiest when he has space to explore, a routine he can rely on, and a calm leader by his side.If you’re looking for a soulful hiking buddy, a loyal group member, and a dog whose progress will inspire you daily—Bento might just be your once-in-a-lifetime friend.
Contribute to Bento's Stash!

100% of Bento's balance will be sent to whoever adopts Bento.
Adopt Bento and Receive Bento's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Bento's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Bento's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Bento, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Bento's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Bento was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Bento’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Bento’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Bento’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
