About this Horse
Emma got her name through her amazing origin story which made national news! She started life a as a free roaming unhandled horse on the Navajo Nation bordering Lake Powell. When the lake was low, she wandered across a sand bar to an area that quickly turned into an island when the water level in the lake rose, leaving her and her newborn foal stranded. Boaters on the lake saw the pair and realized they didn't have any food left on their island and put a rescue operation into motion to get them to Best Friends. Emma is named after John Wesley Powell's wife, Harriet Emma Dean Powell. Emma was wild and un-handleable when she came but has made a lot of progress and has gotten quite tame. She is looking for a life-long partner who is extremely experienced and understands her worries and her sensitive nature and appreciates how amazing she is.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Emma Dean was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Emma Dean’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Emma Dean’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Emma Dean’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
