About this Dog
Meet Cece! This 2.5-year-old girl came in with her littermate Oliver. It was believed that they were a bonded pair, and while they do spend most of their time together it has been determined that they are experiencing littermate syndrome, which creates a lot of anxiety and behaviors which are more distressing to them than their companionship is comforting. The decision has been made to adopt them to separate homes. This decision has not come easily, and we do not take it lightly. We do believe they will be happier in the end being able to thrive on their own. Like her brother, Cece is a work in progress. While she was very loved in her former home, circumstances did not allow for the typical training that happens during the first months and years of a young dog's life. Her foster dad has put a lot of work into evaluating Cece and working on training. She has begun a low dose of medication, Prozac, which has helped a great deal to help reduce her anxiety. Cece must have been born first as she is the quintessential big sister. She will do well with another non dominant dog for companionship as she gets along very well with the other dogs in her foster home. Full of energy and the desire to be the boss, Cece will greet you right away jumping in your lap before your butt hits the chair. She possesses the classic pug appetite and is being fed separately from the other dogs as she will try and eat their food. Cece gets a bit anxious on car rides and would prefer riding in the front seat, but she is getting used to being secured in the back seat for safety. Cece is not crate trained. She likes to sleep in bed with her people and pack. As far as potty training goes, Cece was doing a lot of behavioral marking at first. This has reduced greatly as the medication has helped with her obsession with Oliver. She will also use a pee pad. We feel this will improve even more in a new environment without the need to mark after her brother. Walks mean the opportunity to do one of her favorite activities. Meeting new people is high on Cece's list of desirable activities. Initially when Ollie and Cece were walked together, she would lunge at cars and was rather wild. Separating the 2 and having Cece on a walk with another companion has significantly reduced this behavior. She is a healthy girl. UTD and spayed, Cece has no medical issues. She had a few typical puppy visits in her former home but has checked out well with our vet! Cece is a licker. She loves giving kisses and grooming other dogs, Ollie in particular. She is a super sweet happy excitable girl. But in true pug fashion is happy to settle into a nice snooze on your lap and soak up all the love. Cece will make a wonderful friend to the person who is willing to help her gain confidence and continue on her journey to become the best girl she can be! If you are willing to bring Cece over the finish line and give this girl her best life yet, please complete an application. ADOPTION FEE: $750.00 based on her age Requirements for adopting Cece: Cece would do best with a canine companion. Ideally a non-dominant, but confident dog who can help her gain independence, confidence and provide companionship. Not cat tested, but she is not bothered by the bird living in her foster home, so a friendly cat would likely be okay. Fenced yard preferred but not required. Daily walks for exercise, stimulation and socialization Continued work on house training. Cece may have some accidents with transition. Commitment to continue working towards ensuring Cece's emotional health. Patience throughout the transition with positive reinforcement of good behavior. Working towards discontinuing medication if deemed appropriate by veterinarian as evidenced by reduced anxiety with adaptation to new environment. Continued wellness care as well as parasite prevention Dog savvy children age 8 and older Please note: all applicants with other pets must provide proof of parasite prevention with those pets. A letter of exemption for health reasons from a veterinarian will be accepted.
