About this Dog

I am urgently looking for a home for my 3.5 year old male Akita Cross Rottweiler X GSD. I have recently found out I am pregnant and unable to care for Atlas. Atlas was born in February 2021 and has been with ourselves since he was 9 weeks old. Lockdowns from Covid-19 have meant that he has not been socialised how he should have been and this has resulted in some issues that require someone with more experience to further his training. Atlas is energetic, playful and can be nervous/reactive. He is unsure of new people, which can result in him snapping if an unknown individual tries to touch him. When he meets new people he shows interest and sometimes will jump up wagging his tail (this is something I try to stop him doing) however, even after his initial desire to interact if the person invades his space or attempts to clap him he will react usually with a growl or snapping. He has had limited interactions with other dogs and has become reactive, this displays as lunging towards other dogs if they are too close (usually with wagging tail but hackles up) and if a dog reacts to him by growling, barking or invading his space he responds by growling and lunging. As a puppy Atlas did interact with my parents Rottweiler X GSD with no issues and I do believe my lack of knowledge is preventing this issue being resolved, with time and correct training I would believe he would socialise with other dogs, there is certainly a desire to interact from him. He is always muzzled around new people and when out walking which has ensured he has never bitten another person or animal. Due to his breeding I would have used a muzzle in these situations anyway as a safety precaution as he is a strong dog. At feeding time Atlas does resource guard, this displays as standing over his food and growling and using his body to push you away from his food. I have worked on this but again a lack of experience means the best solution I have found is to take his food to him giving him a wait command, placing his food down and moving back before giving the command to get his food. This works well and I always allow him time on his own to eat. Atlas likes to play with all kinds of toys, he also enjoys fetch which is limited due to him being muzzled when out the house. He enjoys some off lead walking when the park is quiet and free of many dogs, he will recall and stay close by if there are other dogs however if they come within his threshold he is no longer able to be recalled as he locks on to these dogs, he will not react or interact with people usually when off lead. I have attached a couple of pictures of Atlas, I am sorry these are not great quality.

How will Atlas receive the contribution?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Atlas, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Atlas's contribution here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Atlas was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Atlas’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.

What happens to unclaimed funds?

We want the Atlas’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Atlas’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
