About this Dog
Colin is a 9 month old unneutered male. He came to me as a puppy from a loving home. I missed the red flag that he was not shown with his mother , just a photo of the supposed mother . I now believe he came from a puppy mill. He is not the dog for me and needs a handler experienced with Collies. He has a bite history with me but is friendly to everyone and also with dogs. I am recently bereaved and do not have the energy to cope with him . That he is young enough to be rehabilitated gives me hope, but it I am no able to do it. He was caught by his house lead as a pup and has recently become reactive to me with his lead a problem. Due to the breakdown in our relationship I cannot provide him with the care he deserves. Along with his walks and coat maintenance he requires activities in the home and has until now received a lot of enrichment. He meets with other dogs and plays well. i have introduced him to animals on our local city farm and he as with all things strange sits and watches . I speak to him with a calm voice and he is reassured. I believe the lead reactivity has surfaced after I eft him with someone i thought i could trust but they ignored my advice and tried the out dated alpha male approach. I found the person with a tight hold on his house lead and his hand round his mouth. he is intelligent and has good recall sits and waits for his food, looking at me for permission. Never been destructive with any items he hasn't been given, I do give him newspapers , cardboard, chews and a kong of peanut butter. at night he has a Kong of frozen peanut butter or sometimes his dinner in a Licky bowl He has been left with shoes and so forth not troubled them. He is a really wonderful dog but as I say with our recent loss my stuffing has been knocked out and I feel anxious which is no good for him or the reactivity. I am trying all no kill shelters , there are so many lock down dogs that have been given up everwhere is full and I am desperate as the alternative is too awful.
