About this Dog
Matey is 5 years old and his human Daddy recently passed away. He loves affection, a good cuddle and ALL the scratches. He has a sweet face and is always happy to see his human family and friends. He has not been set any boundaries and is very strong willed so he will need a strong handler; someone who can set and stick to clear boundaries and knows how to set dominance. He will walk all over you if he doesn't respect you.
We are teaching him to be polite and not to jump up, he has drastically improved but still needs reminding now and then.
He has issues on a walk, he has limited to no recall so has to stay on a lead; his hunting instinct is incredibly strong and we have lost him for several hours in the past. He has a tendency to attack certain breeds of dog when on the lead. He has also been known to randomly nip people as he passes by, this is our greatest cause for concern. He is currently living with my Mother and myself and our two elderly dogs who he dominates.
I have noticed some improvement in his behaviour when I'm around to set the boundaries but when left alone with my Mother he reverts back to his aggressive dominance. He doesn't like to share his space, toys or food with other dogs and can be VERY aggressive if they come anywhere near him. So far he has shown no aggression to his human family and friends, just dogs and strangers. I do not know what he is like around children but I wouldn't think a home with kids would work.
I believe he can be rehabilitated, he has lived with an old man who didn't set any boundaries, already with a few simple boundaries and correction he is beginning to show improvement, with some dedicated love and attention he could be a wonderful pet. If I wasn't working full time I would try myself.

Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Matey's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.

How will Matey receive the contribution?
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Matey, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Matey's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Matey was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Matey’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
What happens to unclaimed funds?
We want the Matey’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Matey’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
