Dog adoption in Imperial, TX, 79743 Unknown Dog "Trudy"

Trudy — Spayed female, likely shepherd/cattle-dog mix, Trudy came to us as a stray about six years ago and has been part of our family ever since she was a young pup someone dumped in an abandoned lot at the top of our street. She’s affectionate, gentle, and has never shown aggression toward anyone. She’s great with kids, sleeps a lot, and is happiest indoors when she’s not out getting exercise — though she is active and needs daily room to run. Breed: Unknown — she was a stray, not from a breeder. Based on her build and coloring, our best guess is a shepherd or cattle-dog type mix, but that’s not confirmed. Age/history: With our family for 6 years. Health: Spayed, microchipped, current on rabies and Bordetella vaccines. Training: Leash trained, crate trained and house broken. Behavior notes: Trudy is uneasy around men and is currently afraid of the male member of our household — she needs patience and a slow introduction, and would likely do best with a woman or someone able to build trust gradually. She’s also difficult to catch if she gets loose, so a securely fenced yard is a requirement, not a preference. She doesn’t tolerate extended time outside in heat or cold and has always slept indoors at night. Why we’re rehoming her: A change in our household (my ex who Trudy was very fond of abandoned myself and all the dogs we were taking care of together) means I can no longer give her the focused environment and one-on-one attention she needs. I am the only one caring for her and she is scared of me and always has been despite years of being good to her and trying to work with her. She needs to go to a home where she can feel safe and be loved on. She loves to cuddle on the couch...just not with me!
