My name is Jim Bob. I’m a 6 year old, 25-pound terrier/Jack Russell mix, and I used to have a person. A good one. He was mine, and I was his. He understood me—how I like to curl up in corners, how loud noises make me tremble, how I just want to be near someone I trust. But he’s gone now. Since then, everything has changed. One moment I was home… the next, I was somewhere cold and loud, with strangers everywhere. I don’t understand why they keep trying to come close. I don’t know them. I don’t feel safe. I growl and bark because I’m scared. It’s not because I’m mean—I just don’t know how else to say please, don’t hurt me. I miss my person. I miss the quiet. I miss feeling safe. Right now, I feel like I’m disappearing. They tell me I don’t have much time left. I heard them talking. “He needs someone experienced. He’s not doing well here.” They’re right—I’m not. I can’t be brave in this place. I’m not ready to be alone forever. Please… if you’ve ever been heartbroken, you’ll understand. I’m not a bad dog. I’m a grieving dog. I need someone patient. Someone who will let me learn to trust again, even if it takes a little while. Maybe a kind man like the one I lost. Maybe just someone who sees past the fear to the love that’s still inside me. Please don’t let my story end like this. I just want to feel safe again. I just want to go home.
