Hi… um… my name’s Gerald. I’m trying to keep my head held high, but honestly? I’m scared. The shelter is loud—metal doors clanging, dogs barking, strange smells everywhere—and I don’t understand why I’m here. I keep thinking maybe I did something wrong, but the people here tell me I’m a good boy. I’m only two years old, a lab mix with a shiny coat and hopeful eyes (at least… I try to keep them hopeful). I love people—like really love them—but right now all I have are quick moments when someone passes by my kennel. When they stop and talk to me, my tail thumps so hard it hurts, because maybe… maybe this time it’s my person. I’ll tell you the truth: I want to be your only pet. I want all your love, every ear scratch, every silly conversation, every “good boy” whispered just for me. I’m young, I get excited, and sometimes I jump because I can’t hold in the happy. I know I’ll need someone who loves me enough to be firm and teach me, but I promise I’m worth it. I’m already housebroken, and I’m pretty good on a leash. I’m not crate trained, but I’ll try to figure things out if you give me the chance. The people here say I’m a shelter favorite, but I don’t want to be the favorite here.
