About this Dog
Meet CowboyBreed: Long-Haired Chihuahua or Chiweenie Mix | Age: 1.5–2 years | Weight: 11 lbsAvailable for local adoption in Middle Tennessee only Cowboy is a striking little guy—scruffy, soulful, and deeply loyal. He came to us in June from a heartbreaking hoarding case outside Nashville, where over 30 Chihuahuas lived in overcrowded, neglected conditions. Understandably, Cowboy arrived scared and defensive. After a bite in his first foster home, he was placed with an experienced foster who knew how to give fearful dogs the time and space they need. One movie night (and a pair of leather gloves) later, Cowboy fell asleep in her lap—and hasn’t left her side since. He’s made tremendous progress in the past six weeks. He’s no longer aggressive, but he’s still cautious. He tolerates gentle petting from strangers while gazing at his foster mom for reassurance, and he’ll take treats if she’s nearby. He loves other dogs and has integrated beautifully into a mixed pack. He enjoys zoomies and playtime, but his favorite thing is simply being close to his person. Cowboy is a one-person dog through and through. He likely won’t transfer that bond easily, and the transition to a new home will require patience but will most certainly be rewarded in due time. His adopter must be calm, confident, and patient—someone who won’t flinch at a fearful nip or take it personally if trust comes slowly. He will need the following for an ideal home: Cowboy’s Ideal Home: Adult-only, calm household with someone willing to be patient Someone experienced with fearful or protective dogs Not a fit for young kids, frequent visitors, or social home environments with lots of visitors Another small, confident dog is a plus but not required Someone that realizes he is smart, sensitive but slow to trust with a rewarding outcome when he breaks through the barrier of fear Interested in Cowboy? Adopt COWBOY and Receive COWBOY's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, COWBOY's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is COWBOY's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the COWBOY, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming COWBOY's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and COWBOY was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, COWBOY’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the COWBOY’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, COWBOY’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
