About this Dog
Date into Rescue: 07/04/23 Reason for being in rescue: Luca was originally found by a caring animal control officer who found him stuck in a 12' deep crevasse. He was pulled out by his front legs. No chip, no collar, we have no idea how he found himself there. He's a lucky boy. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Luca is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm-negative. Luca's eyes require consistent cleaning and daily maintenance. We are working to determine if this is seasonal allergies or something more. Luca's eyes will always need additional care, he needs his face kept short and regular eye clean outs. Weight: 43 lbs Height: 23 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Yes, Luca requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller. What kind of home would be best for me? Luca is just a young standard poodle looking for a home with structure and routine. Luca wants a home that loves to train their dog and participate in sports with their dog. Luca would prefer to live with another young female dog who is confident in her life and can show him what it means to be a dog. A male dog would be okay for Luca as well, but we have noticed he gravitates to playing with females more. The dog in the home would need to be a medium to large dog as Luca has the typical poodle prey drive when it comes to small dogs and cats (25 lbs and under are a no for Luca). Luca would prefer mature teenagers in his home for now, he could have young children visit from time to time but he is still learning that sometimes being vocal with humans can feel scary to small children. Luca loves to play and doesn’t always remember that people can’t play like a dog can. Luca is more oriented to people than dogs. He is incredibly eager to please humans. He responds well to his name and is easily instructed into a sit or down when needed. Luca is intelligent and could quickly pick up more skills with the right training. Luca loves to play ball and would excel at sports that involved fetching something (dock diving, fly ball) What is my personality like? Luca is an estimated 3-year-old male Standard Poodle who was lovingly brought to CPR by an Animal Control officer after he was found stuck in a 12’ deep crevasse. He is always very happy-go-lucky and has a ton of spunk to go along with his fun-loving personality. Luca is always ready for the next big thing and is always down for any adventures he can find. He enjoys being outdoors when he can run and play all day long and loves napping on cozy beds when he decides not to lie on the cold floor. Luca has lots of energy and needs a good bit of time and attention dedicated to him to keep him happy, entertained, and worn out. He would never stop if he had a say in it. Luca loves going on long walks and hikes and would probably love going to dog parks. Luca walks great on a leash (after he has been able to exert some of his energy) and would benefit from some additional training. Luca is ready for his future home to offer him lots of outlets for energy, lots of adventures, and a ton of love and affection. Dogs do have teeth, and when put in scenarios where they feel that they need to bite, they will do what instinct tells them to do. Luca does have a bite history. A caregiver here at the farm was roughhousing with Luca. Luca did not enjoy this and went to bite the caregiver in two spots. One on the arm and one on the hand. Luca does not want to be treated like your average run of the mill pet. Luca has boundaries and prefers a much calmer energy than what the caregiver was giving him. He will not be happy being surprised or pulled. This is especially important if you have children in the home or visiting the home regularly. How do I act when I first meet new people? Luca loves meeting new faces and doesn’t mind being placed in new environments or new settings. Luca is a very emotionally secure dog. Other tips and tidbits: Luca was found as a stray, so we have no history on him. Based on his overall health and condition he is estimated at 3 years. We celebrate his birthday 03/10/20. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
