About this Dog
Date into Rescue:7/25/25 Reason for being in rescue: Breeder release/retiring. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Poppy is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. On 08/06/2025 she had a dental polishing. Poppy arrived in rescue from poor conditions. She and all the dogs in the home have been proactively treated for mange. Our best guess is that Poppy is a poodle, but she came from a puppy mill where there were also chihuahuas and pomeranians. We cannot guarantee that she is hypoallergenic or that she won't shed. Weight: 9.4 lbs Height: 12 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $399 Fence needed? No, though Poppy knows absolutely nothing about a leash. What kind of home would be best for me? Poppy is like a flower in early spring—waiting for someone patient enough to nurture her, water her with kindness, and give her the warmth she needs to grow. With humans, she needs time, patience, and gentle encouragement, but with the right care, her trust will unfold, revealing the sweet, loving soul she truly is. One thing Poppy absolutely needs is another dog in her home. This isn’t optional—she thrives with a canine friend by her side. She draws confidence from them, learns from them, and lets her playful energy shine brightest when she has a buddy to romp with. A friendly, confident dog will be her anchor in this new and unfamiliar world. Because of her gentle but energetic nature, Poppy isn’t looking for a noisy or high-chaos household, Poppy would probably not do well with children. She does want a home where she can play freely with her doggy friend and then settle down in peace. If you are considering adopting Poppy - a puppy mill survivor - please read this important article before you submit an application: https://bestfriends.org/pet-care-resources/what-expect-when-rescuing-puppy-mill-dog What is my personality like? Poppy – A Gentle Flower with a Playful Spirit! Poppy is a delicate white Mini Poodle with a tender heart and a quiet spirit—until she’s with her canine friends, when her playful side bursts into bloom. While she’s shy and reserved with people right now, she absolutely comes alive around other dogs, playing with energy and joy that could make anyone smile. Poppy’s past was spent outdoors, never knowing the comfort and safety of a home. Now, she’s discovering the joy of soft beds, quiet rooms, and the peace that comes from having her own space. Still, she’ll need patient guidance to learn everything—how to live indoors, walk on a leash, and understand what it means to be loved. For the person willing to offer her patience, understanding, and the company of another dog, Poppy promises to grow into a loyal, playful, and tenderhearted companion—a flower whose beauty and joy will bloom brightest in the right hands. How do I act when I first meet new people? Poppy is shy and unsure. She is gentle and wants to trust, it just takes time. She will be far more interested in and friendly with your dog! Other tips and tidbits: Poppy arrived in rescue as part of a puppy mill. We have no records on her. Based on her overall health and condition she has been estimated at 4.5 years old by our veterinary partner. We celebrate her birthday 12/13/2020. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
