About this Dog
Date into Rescue: 1/4/2024 Reason for being in rescue: born at CPR on 1/4/24 Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Hunter is a young puppy that's had a rough start to life. Hunter and his brothers all became very, very ill after their second deworming . Hunter recovered after spending some time in ICU. We are hoping he'll go on to bigger and better things but want to let his potential new parents know he had a bad time of it for a while and needs to be watched. At the 10 week mark, he was half the size of his largest sister. Hunter is not neutered due to his age. He will be adopted on a spay/neuter addendum that requires you to neuter him at your cost within 12 months. Weight: 15 lbs now and growing well - we anticipate 45 lbs or so when full grown Height: 10 in now and growing well - we anticipate at least 22" when full grown Spayed/Neutered: No - Hunter is far too young for surgery yet. He will be placed on a neuter contract. Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Homes with physical fences will be given first preference but Hunter is extremely bonded to people and is a lower key puppy than his siblings. His foster mom will consider homes without physical fences if the right criteria otherwise is met (see full description). For homes without physical fences, we are looking for planned off leash run and romp free time a minimum of 4 times per week for a minimum of 1 hour per session. What kind of home would be best for me? Hunter has been raised with a ton of love, affection and human contact. ENS (early neurological stimulation) exercises helped to wake his personality and the results is a little boy who thinks humans are cool. He also thinks other dogs are cool, too. Hunter's perfect home will have a gregarious and happy dog pal of any size or breed under 10 years old and loving and doting human parents who believe that where they go, their dogs should go, too. Hunter believes in it's a family affair because he was raised that way. What is my personality like? Sweet, happy and ready to be spoiled. Hunter loves to be close to his people. Being held is lots of fun so plan for an extra large lap dog to keep you warm in the winter. He is a medium energy poodle so lots of walks (they don't have to be long) and then lots of time hanging out with you. Hunter loves the kitchen at his foster home for it is the hub of the home. He likes being where all the action is. PUPPY POLICY: Thank you for carefully considering the addition of a puppy to your family. Puppies can be a joyous experience, but they can also be a tremendous amount of work. Since our goal is to place each of our dogs in forever homes, we are especially cautious with puppies. We like to stress 3 major things when considering a puppy vs. an adult dog: 1) many adult dogs are well bred, well trained dogs who find themselves in rescue through no fault of their own, 2) adult dogs are eager to share their love and bond with their new family, and 3) puppies will always require far more time, energy, and training than an adult dog. Our ideal puppy adopters are: -experienced dog owners with a solid record of excellent vet care of their previous pets -scheduled away from home for no more than 4 hours per day and have another canine companion already in the home -stay at home type of people (work at home, home schoolers, retired, etc) How do I act when I first meet new people? Puppies love everyone. Other tips and tidbits: Hunter 's exact birthdate is 1/4/2024. His mother came to us when the current owner, the owner of a popular stud dog, rescued his mom. She did not get mom spayed in time and her stud dog did what he does best . She realized she is much happier being the proud paternal grandma instead of having puppies everywhere so reached out for help. We happily took Mother Mary in and helped her bring her babies into the world. Mother Mary will be spayed in approximately 3 weeks and ready for adoption also. Hunter loves his mother very much. She is a good mother and has taken great care of the litter but has also told us it's time for them to make their own way into the world. Hunter has not yet met a cat. He has met many other dogs large and small and many people. He met a horse and thought it was a big gentle giant. House trained? Hunter is too young yet for formal house training but we're starting crate training (all feeding is now in the crate) and pee pad training at night. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
