Meet Ollie, the resilient 4-year-old Aussie mix who is now ready to embark on a new chapter of his life with a forever family. Ollie's journey hasn't been easy. When his southern foster saw him advertised as free, he was battling flea allergy dermatitis, which left him with hair loss and bleeding. His teeth showed signs of wear from relentless flea-biting, and his ears bore the marks of an unknown previous injury. Additionally, it turned out he was heartworm positive. But through it all, Ollie's gentle nature and unwavering resilience show through. Thanks to his foster’s dedicated care, Ollie received treatment for his flea allergy dermatitis and underwent heartworm treatment. Today, he stands strong and healthy, ready to share his love with a special someone. Ollie's personality is as endearing as his story. He gets along famously with puppies and other dogs, embodying patience and calmness in every interaction. Affectionate and loving, Ollie adores companionship and cherishes every moment spent with his humans. Whether it's cuddling up on the couch or going for a ride in the car, Ollie's loyalty knows no bounds. This charming pup is not just a companion; he's a beacon of hope and resilience. He's house-trained and crate-trained, making him an ideal addition to any loving home. Ollie is looking to be a faithful friend to someone who needs their life filled with joy and unconditional love and who will help him write the next chapter of his story with a happy ending. Medical Note: This dog is being treated/has been treated for heartworm disease. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. Whenever possible, SOSARL advocates for following the American Heartworm Society guidelines for heartworm disease treatment as the safest and most effective methods; the active portion of this treatment protocol can take up to four months to complete. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and will be ready to travel north and be placed into an adoptive home. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment and is expected to complete treatment with no complications. Please ask your Adoption Counselor for the specific treatment protocol used for and current status of this dog. Please check with your vet if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. Medical Note: This dog has tested positive for exposure to ehrlichia. This does not mean that this dog had/has an active infection of ehrlichiosis, only that the dog was exposed or infected in the past. This dog is/has been asymptomatic while in SOS care and is being treated/has been treated preventatively with a 28-day course of doxycycline. This dog is ready for adoption, though may continue to test positive for exposure to ehrlichia for some time. Please see here for more information on ehrlichia, and please check with your vet before you apply to adopt this dog if you have any questions or concerns about this medical history. An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
