Value and her littermates have been kenneled and separated from home life since early October 2023. They are shy and slow to warm up to people and experiences because their interactions have been limited. They did not have many social interactions during a young age as they were battling parvo virus. They are currently working on socialization in controlled environments. They are looking for quiet, adult homes who will slowly integrate them into new experiences. Value has shown to be very fearful of humans, but thrives around other dogs. While we strive to break down barriers to adoption we recognize that environment can have a large impact on dogs like Value. Due to this we will only be considering home with other dogs and a fenced in yard for this girl. The fence is to limit handling from the humans at the beginning as this will help to build trust and that bond. We have not seen any aggression from Value, but rather significant fear. She loves being around other dogs and they help her confidence. She would love another canine sibling or two!! She continues to learn about this big world, so will need someone patient to show her that treats, playtime and people can be awesome. Value struggles particularly with touch and handling so we are going very slow and giving her space. She would do best in a household that is quiet and predictable that does not have many social expectations. We strongly recommend that all of our dogs, especially puppies, attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it can build confidence and socialization for the dog. Value would benefit from working with a Behavior Consultant or Behaviorist to help her with transition. Medical Note: Val is a parvo survivor, and she is still gaining weight. Her last symptoms were on 12/6/2023, and we are so happy that she is okay now! An adoption donation is required for each adoption; please see HERE for more information about this. To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ * *Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
