About this Dog
Date into Rescue: 08/02/2019 Reason for being in rescue: Stray, found on cattle farm Foster location: Foster Home in Union, SC Special Needs? Pippi Longtail has just completed treatment for heartworms. She MUST be on preventatives for the rest of her life. Pippi also has a flea allergy. Excellent flea control is non-negotiable for her. Weight: 16 lbs Height: 10 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? No but you need to keep a firm hand on her leash. She will go off to explore. However she is good on her leash. What kind of home would be best for me? Pippi Longtail is looking for an experienced owner. She has never been around children and given her preference for quiet and calm, isn't well suited for a lifestyle with children. Pippi has some personality quirks and is not for a first time dog owner. She is what is called a resource guarder - when she has something she considers valuable, she won't give it up. These include pretty much anything she has that she considers "hers" at the moment. Mostly it is food and her bowl or treats. Say you drop a napkin from the table and it has the smell of food. She will guard that. Yet at the same time she can eat her meal with other dogs. Her guarding isn't every single day but she does do it. However, Pippi has a good sense of value and you can swap her out if she has found something. If she feels like what you have is better, she will happily give up what she has for what you have. What is my personality like? Pippi Longtail is a pretty even tempered girl. She is living in a foster home with other dogs and gets along with everyone. Pippi has never been around cats, but given her laid back style we doubt she'll have issues. Pippi prefers a quiet home. She is not a high energy dog and really wants a NetFlix and chill lifestyle. Pippi enjoys short strolls, but isn't looking for marathon lifestyle. How do I act when I first meet new people? Friendly. She meets new people easily, without all the crazy you sometimes see with terrier's. She'll sit politely and ask "don't you want to pet me." She is really sensible about that first meeting. Other tips and tidbits: Pippi Longtail's estimated birthday is 9/3/2014. This is just a guess since she was found as a stray. If her foster home could build a perfect home for Pippi, it would be this. An older, settled couple who don't have regular visitors and especially not small children visiting. She can be allowed in the bed or can sleep on a dog in the same room. She would love a fenced in yard and she would love someone who would sit on the porch and hang out with her when she meanders around the yard. Ultimately, she is the companion dog. She likes to be in your lap. She likes being touched. She likes being part of things but in her foster home, she is content when it's just the dogs but bear in mind, she is never alone in her foster home. She is always with another dog. She is not a player with other dogs. She is a companion type of dog and can be a companion. Pippi enjoys being brushed and is easy to groom. She does not have to have professional grooming but would look better if she got that at least 3 times per year. Pippi does not like storms and thunder or fireworks. She gets nervous, not to the point of tearing things up, but she wants to know where her people are. She takes comfort from knowing you are there to take care of her during those big bang kinds of times. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
