About this Dog

Trinity is a stray who showed up on July 5 in Phelan emaciated and badly injured. She was not able to use her hind right leg and had a deep gash in her hind quarters. She was hungry and thirsty, but very friendly. She was wearing an old collar but no tags. I took photos of her and put notices on the Facebook pages in Phelan and the surrounding communities in hopes of finding her owner. July 5 was a holiday, but I was able to get an appointment at Country Animal Care, Phelan on Tuesday, July 6 for medical treatment. X-rays revealed a severe bone separation which the veterinarian believed was a result of being hit by a vehicle. I was advised of 3 options: 1. Surgery to repair the hind quarter which entailed inserting a plate since the bones were shattered; 2. Leg amputation; 3. Take her to the animal shelter. The doctor quoted a cost of $4600 for option 1, and $1700 for option 2. She was certain that the dog would be euthanized if I chose option 3 since the shelter would not likely provide the extensive medical care needed for her survival. Her leg was amputated on Wednesday, July 7 and I continued to search for her owner. I requested she be spayed while she was under anesthesia. While in the process of spaying, the doctor discovered 12 puppy fetuses which were estimated to be 2-3 weeks along. The fetuses were aborted. Trinity is recovering very nicely. Her stitches will be removed Wednesday July 21. She is managing extremely well and is a fast learner. She has already mastered basic commands. She has a wonderful personality and is very smart. Her mobility is not hindered by her lack of one limb. She is amazing. She gets along with my dogs (I have 4!) but does not show interest in them. She is too focused on my cat for me to be comfortable, and I would not say she is cat safe. I volunteer for greyhound rescue and have cat tested many high prey dogs. She is, however, okay with my small terrier. Trinity is a people lover. Because of her lack of interest in other dogs, I think she would be fine as an only pet. She wants to belong to someone and bonds very quickly to anyone showing her affection. She would be a great companion to someone who wants an intelligent, friendly and lovable dog who would be grateful to have her own person and forever home.
