Hi, I’m Kody. I’m an 11 yr old Yellow Lab that came into Brookline after my Dad died. My Dad had been sick and spent a lot of time in the hospital prior to his death. So I was left home alone with my Cat buddies with someone from my Dad’s family coming in to care for us several times a day. I was really stressed when I finally came to Brookline after losing my Dad, my Cat buddies and my home. I did a lot of panting and pacing. It took me a week to settle into my Foster Home with the help of my FFM (Favorite Foster Mom). She slept on the floor with me in the living room for the first few days because I didn’t want to go to any of the other rooms, we eventually moved to the floor of her bedroom and finally I was brave enough to sleep on the floor by myself. I get along with everyone. I used to live with cats but now I’m living with 2 dogs. I also have 2 Foster Moms. There aren’t any kids here but I have met children out at events and they seem to be okay with me. I’m also fine with men, I loved my Dad! I love to be with my people, esp my FFM, I get anxious and will bark/whine when she leaves or even just goes outside. It doesn’t even matter if other people are there in the room with me. I will bark when left alone with the other dogs but only for a few minutes. When My Foster Moms went away, I stayed with another Volunteer and she said that I did fine transitioning to her home. But I did whine some when she worked out front in the garden and left me inside with her husband. When I came to Brookline, my back legs were really weak and I would fall over. I saw the Rehab Vet who said I have some arthritis in my back, hips and elbows and I have a neurological condition, GOLP (Geriatric Onset Laryngeal Paralysis) that is common in Labs. GOLP can cause increased panting and difficulty breathing along with hind end weakness which was causing the difficulty with mobility, esp on steps which I couldn’t do when I first came here. I’ve been having weekly PT sessions for pain management and underwater treadmill for strengthening and I’m walking much better now and I can even cautiously do the 5-6 steps up/down from the deck to the yard. But I’m not sure I would be able to do a full flight of steps. I also have hazy, swollen eyes, so Brookline took me to an eye Dr. The Dr said I have Corneal Endothelial Dystrophy. Did you say “HUH?”. That’s what I said, too! Doc said it’s a condition that affects the inner layer of the cornea and leads to loss of cells that normally pump fluid out of the cornea. So, fluid builds up, causing swelling, cloudiness, and blurry vision. I get eye gel daily to decrease the swelling to minimize the risk of corneal ulcers, which can be painful. I also take Appoquel for allergies.I enjoys walks and want to meet everyone I see, dog & human. I don’t get on the furniture or countersurf. I enjoy other dogs and will sometimes try to get them to play but play sessions are pretty short for me.Now that I’m feeling so much better, it’s time to look for my forever home. For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Noreen was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Noreen’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Noreen’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Noreen’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org.
