About this Dog

I need to rehome my 6-year old Mountain Cur, Pearl (spayed female). My husband and I found Pearl abandoned in the woods as a puppy and took her into our home over 5 years ago and she has been a loved member of our family ever since. Unfortunately, when Pearl was a little over a year old she started picking fights with our other dog, Penny. We spent months in professional training to get them to get along, without success. Eventually we just started keeping the 2 dogs separate. This worked for about 4 years until one day last year when both dogs were accidentally left out of their crates at the same time. They fought, and when I was breaking up the fight, Pearl bit me, which was the second time she had done so when the dogs fought. However, now we have a young daughter, and we realized we cannot risk her ever being in the middle of the dogs fighting. To make matters worse, Pearl has recently started to growl at out daughter without any provocation, and she recently growled at a friend's 10-year-old son. Pearl is a very sweet and loving dog, but she has a very nervous temperament and we have to face the reality that she simply can't live in a home with other dogs or small children. We know she had been abused before being abandoned in the woods due to improperly healed broken bones noted by the vet at her first check up, and I think the trauma she went through as a puppy is simply something that can't be fixed. She is also terrified of loud noises. She would be the perfect dog for an older person or couple who live a quiet lifestyle and don't have children around or other dogs. Pearl is OK with cats, and has never bitten an human outside of me getting in the middle of her fighting with another dog. She has also never growled at an adult, although she sometimes exhibits fearful behavior towards strangers. But typically she loves adults and just wants to snuggle and be patted. As my daughter (now 1) becomes more active, and Pearl becoming more nervous around her, we fear for our daughter's safety. We really do not want Pearl to be put down, as she really would be a wonderful pet for the right household.

How will Pearl receive the contribution?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Pearl, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Pearl's contribution here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Pearl was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Pearl’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.

What happens to unclaimed funds?

We want the Pearl’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Pearl’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
