Do you believe in second chances? Awesome Possum (the cat) is hoping so, because he would love to find a new home! Possum was spotted by a teacher drinking out of a frozen fountain at Walnut Hills high school in January. He looked scraggly and thin (and kind of like a possum!) so a plan was set to trap him and help him. He was unaltered, so he was brought to OAR for neuter and vaccines. Under his medium length coat, he only weighed about 8lbs (an average male cat weighs 11lbs). OAR determined he had a chipped canine tooth, so he was then brought to another vet to have that removed. He is estimated to be be 5-7 years old. Upon holding him for a recovery period, Possum began to show that he was a good kitty! He began meowing, seeking out pets, playing with toys, being picked up and held and even getting a bubble bath...all within about a week! So Possum probably had an owner at one point, but was discarded and abandoned and left to fend for himself outside. Currently he loves food (a lot!), getting brushed and petted, catnip toys, ball track toys, making biscuits, and sitting in a cat condo looking out the window. Possum would love to find a forever home. I am happy to offer (and encourage) a trial period so you can be sure he is right for you before committing to adopting. Possum would probably do best in a quiet home with older children and/or adults. He would also need to be the only pet in the home. Possum is FIV+ which basically means he has a weaker immune system, but will still lead a long and normal life. FIV cannot be transmitted to other pets through the sharing of food/litter/playing/grooming etc. However, this is not significant since I am looking for him to be the only pet in the home anyway. Please reach out to me at 513-520-4124 if you are interesting in adopting Possum! I'm glad to tell you more about him over the phone, and then set up a meet and greet if you like! He may be a little shy at first, but will come out of his shell quickly.
