About this Dog

Gabo was adopted on 10/5/2023 and was returned at that time to SPCA of Cincinnati for the reason: “doesn’t like other pets” He was adopted by my Dad and his partner on 10/31/2023 and he has been part of their family since that moment. He has continuously given them love and companionship since that day. He received dog draining Elite and is a very intelligent dog, unfortunately, for several reasons including the illness of my Dad, his training wasn't able to be completed. Gabo is a very loving dog with my Dad and his partner but he does not tolerate other dogs and he’s befriended only one other person, a friend of the family. Otherwise, he can bark alot, and it becomes a problem when someone visits. This has only been a mild disturbance for them as it’s easily managed and his joys largely outweigh this inconvenience. Approximately 10 months ago he started having episodes of anxiety and excitability that improved somewhat with trazodone. About 3 months ago he started having seizures and his vet diagnosed him with idiopathic epilepsy (unclear etiology) and he’s had 2 episodes of seizures since the start of his treatment and only 1 per month since being on his medication which is Keppra 100 mg every 12 hours. Now, my Dad is really sick and on hospice here in the home. When he dies, his partner will have to leave the house and will have to go live with her sister to a multi-generational family home including an autistic boy and she cannot take Gabo with her. She is full of anxiety because there is no place to leave him that will not put him to sleep. Having to do this would destroy her heart and she's very afraid. Gabo has been her joy and companion during these days of suffering and she's very sorrowful that he may have to die in addition to her partner as she can't find a home for him. She doesn’t know if anyone can love him and have patience with him because of his behavioral challenges and his illness but know with the right owners he is a loving and loyal dog.

How will Gabo receive the contribution?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Gabo, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Gabo's contribution here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Gabo was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Gabo’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.

What happens to unclaimed funds?

We want the Gabo’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Gabo’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
