Foster Home Feedback ** No Cats 6/27/2025 Volunteer Feedback: Ventura has been living at the shelter for almost 2 months and it’s a stressful place for an active young dog. So I decided it was high time he had a kennel break and took him to the lake for a few days…now we know so much more about this very friendly guy. At the shelter, Ventura often presents himself as jumpy and mouthy with volunteers, as he is just sooo excited to see them and be released from his kennel. This behavior pretty much disappeared by the first evening It took him maybe six hours to settle in and relax…he was so excited to dig in my dog toy box and try everything out. We took many short sniff walks, and he loved putting his nose to the ground to follow the scents of deer and all those pesky squirrels and rabbits. Ventura is a super alert guy and loves to watch quietly out the porch windows too. Since he barks some at the shelter, I was happy to learn that he is a quiet dog and did not bark at all on walks, when meeting people, or when I vacuumed. Ventura is an intelligent dog and knows several commands and once corrected to stay off the furniture and my bed, he did so with just a few reminders. I left the cabin several times and kennelled him and he did not bark or protest at all. Quiet and calm upon my return. Ventura slept quietly on a blanket on the floor of my bedroom, ignoring the dog bed, but I know would have slept quietly in the kennel as well. All in all, Ventura proved to be a mostly well-behaved dog in a home. He is quiet, can amuse himself playing with toys, super car passenger, walks nicely on leash, and kennels quietly. I think because he isn’t perfect yet at keeping all 4 feet on the floor, a home with older kids would be best. Ventura would be a great exercise/running partner or a companion for any age person. A fenced yard would also be a big plus, as he was very content to lie on the patio on a tie-out just gazing at the scenery at the lake, and he does the same at my home in Moorhead. Please consider adding this friendly fellow to your family! 5/29/25 Building Volunteer Feedback: As a shelter volunteer we mostly work with stray dogs who come to us when their time at an area pound has run out. They are understandably agitated following being abandoned, captured by animal control, held at the pound and then transferred to us. Then we get them fully vetted and neutered or spayed. That is a lot to live through in a couple of weeks! Ventura is a young and handsome guy who arrived at our shelter and struggled at first with lots of pent up energy when confined in our kennel room. Wearing a cone after his neuter added to his discomfort. When out walking though, he did very well, so I decided to take Ventura to Lowe’s one rainy afternoon to see how he’d do in a different environment. I am happy to report he has no stranger danger. He loved every person he met and sat and took treats gently from Lowe’s employees. We also ran errands and Ventura rode quietly and calmly in the car and waited patiently when I left him alone for a short time. Ventura walks nicely with his harness and has loved playing in my fenced backyard. Ventura is affectionate, playful, potty trained, learning manners, and is a nice medium size. I just know Ventura will be a loving companion for a person or family. I hope it is you! ** Ventura is Anaplasmosis positive. This is a tick-borne illness, and he is currently being treated with Doxycycline. To learn more about Anaplasmosis in dogs, read here: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+2101&aid=3621

Adopt Ventura and Receive Ventura's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Ventura's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Ventura's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Ventura, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Ventura's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Ventura was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Ventura’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Ventura’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Ventura’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
