About this Dog

My 84-year-old mother, who has recently been diagnosed with fast-progressing Alzheimer’s, adopted a dog named Josie from a shelter. Looking back, I don’t believe the adoption should have been approved, given both my mother’s condition and Josie’s temperament. When my mom could no longer care for her, I took Josie in. Josie is a sweet and loyal dog, but she has some challenges. She's very reactive on leash around other dogs and people, and she’s incredibly strong for a medium-sized dog—she can even jump quite high. She’s been through training and attends doggy daycare, where she does well with other dogs. Once she warms up to people, she’s wonderful. She sleeps with me every night and gets along great with my dachshund—she even fetches him when I ask if she wants to go for a walk. But here’s where I’m struggling: I live in a small townhome with no yard, and it's a rental. Management has found out I have a second dog and is now trying to charge me extra. As much as it pains me to admit it, I can no longer keep Josie here. It breaks my heart. Josie needs a home with people who will continue to train her and are patient. Since she has been with my mom and me she has only been around adults.

Adopt Josie and Receive Josie's Fund

Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Josie's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.

How will Josie receive the contribution?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Josie, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Josie's contribution here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Josie was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Josie’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.

What happens to unclaimed funds?

We want the Josie’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Josie’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
