About this Dog
April is a friendly 3-year-old, 8-pound Silky Terrier. April has the standard traits of a Silky Terrier, intelligent, affectionate, friendly, playful, with a touch of stubbornness. She is alert to her surroundings and likes to stay busy. The Silky Terrier description from one website states: This is no sissy lap dog. The silky terrier is a tough character that is always up for a challenge and adventure. Oblivious to its size, this dog would love to go vermin hunting if only given the chance. Fortunately, the silky can meet its hunting needs by playing games and hunting toys around the house and yard. These are playful dogs, but also loving. Silky terriers can be great playmates for considerate children. They are fairly friendly toward strangers but can be aggressive to other dogs and pets. Silkies are great watchdogs (although they could be accused of barking too much), but they are too small to be effective as protection dogs. Obedience training is possible, but it must be made into a fun event or the silky just will not play. April was found by a good Samaritan in the middle of a busy interstate, unable to see because her hair was covering her eyes, and her limbs were matted to her body. April is a lap dog who loves attention. She is friendly and will seek attention from visitors and strangers. April will be best as an only dog, but could possibly share a home with one other small dog (under 10 lbs) who is not lap possessive. April doesn't hesitate to stand up for herself or push another dog's buttons, even ones bigger than she is. April craves attention and constantly shows you she is a very happy little girl. April has dry eye (KCS), which means she needs tacrolimus eye drops 2 times a day for the rest of her life. These eye drops are $55/bottle and last about 6 weeks. One bottle will be included with her at adoption time. April is not completely house trained, so she will need someone who is willing and able to work with her on teaching her outdoor potty skills. If taken out frequently and on a schedule, April learns. She will use potty pads. The adoption range for this dog is limited to NC, SC, VA and East TN. If you are interested in adopting this dog, contact [email protected]. There is an application process and adoption fee. WE REQUIRE AN ALL-ADULT HOME WITH A SECURELY FENCED YARD. The secure fence must be at least 4 feet with gaps no larger than 1 1/4 inches and attached to the home. An invisible fence, enclosed patio or terrace without grass, temporary fencing, dog pens or dog lots or community shared fencing (dog park) are NOT considered secure fencing. If your fencing has "puppy pickets" (or is supplemented with garden fencing), it needs to be at least 36 inches high from the ground up AT THE LOWEST POINT. No exceptions. We are an all-volunteer organization, and in addition to saving dogs, we have other responsibilities, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this process. Response time can take up to 5 business days. Please inquire only if you are willing to come to Greensboro, NC to meet the dog after we schedule your home visit. We do not ship dogs or put them on transports. Veterinary Care: All Hart-2-Heart Rescue foster dogs are spayed/neutered, current on heartworm prevention, parvo/distemper, bordetella, and rabies vaccines, and are professionally groomed. As needed, our foster dogs have teeth cleanings, extractions, bloodwork and other diagnostic testing. Adoption Fee: $500

Adopt April and Receive April's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, April's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is April's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the April, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming April's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and April was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, April’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the April’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, April’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
