About this Dog
Niko is a 3-year-old Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix with a big personality packed into his 13-pound frame. This friendly, spunky little guy is full of joy and energy—and he’s ready to share it all with his forever family. Niko absolutely loves playing with other small dogs and would thrive in a home with a young, playful canine companion. Toys? He’s all about them! Whether it’s chasing, retrieving, or tossing them around, Niko knows how to have a good time. He walks well on a leash… well, mostly. His excitement can get the best of him, and he may tangle you up in leash loops in his enthusiasm—so bring your sense of humor and your sneakers! Niko is doing great with housetraining and has been a loving, appreciative pup in foster care. His ideal home would include an active person who’s around most of the day, plus a playful dog buddy who weighs less than 20 pounds. If you’re looking for a cheerful, playful companion who’ll keep you on your toes and in your heart, Niko’s your guy. The adoption range for this dog is limited to NC, SC, VA and East TN. If you are interested in adopting this dog, contact [email protected]. There is an application process and adoption fee. WE REQUIRE AN ALL-ADULT HOME WITH A SECURELY FENCED YARD. The secure fence must be at least 4 feet or higher with gaps no larger than 2 inches and attached to the home. An invisible fence, enclosed patio or terrace without grass, temporary fencing, dog pens or dog lots or community shared fencing (dog park) are NOT considered secure fencing. If your fencing has "puppy pickets" (or is supplemented with garden fencing), it needs to be at least 36 inches high from the ground up AT THE LOWEST POINT. No exceptions. We are an all-volunteer organization, and in addition to saving dogs, we have other responsibilities, so we appreciate your patience and understanding during this process. Response time can take up to 5 business days. Please inquire only if you are willing to come to Greensboro, NC to meet the dog after we schedule your home visit. We do not ship dogs or put them on transports. Veterinary Care: All Hart-2-Heart Rescue foster dogs are spayed/neutered, current on heartworm prevention, parvo/distemper, bordetella, and rabies vaccines, and are professionally groomed. As needed, our foster dogs have teeth cleanings, extractions, bloodwork and other diagnostic testing. Adoption fee: $500

Adopt Niko and Receive Niko's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Niko's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Niko's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Niko, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Niko's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Niko was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Niko’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Niko’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Niko’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
