About this Dog
Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying. ● Energy level: Moderate ● Potty training: Needs assistance ● Fenced Yard: not required ● Shared walls ok: yes ● People: All ● Dogs: yes ● Other: special needs with mobility and bladder expression Overview Looking for a playful, pint-sized queen who doesn’t let anything slow her down? Meet Lena, a firecracker with a heart of gold! Lena is a 6-year-old English Cream Piebald Dachshund with a big personality and an even bigger zest for life. She came to Little Paws Dachshund Rescue after experiencing IVDD. While she had surgery, she sadly missed out on the necessary physical therapy at the time and is now working hard to regain strength with the help of her foster mom and dedicated physical therapist. Though she’ll always have some degree of disability, Lena is making steady progress and continues to surprise everyone with her determination and spirit. Environment Don’t let her back legs fool you, Lena is a bundle of energy! She loves to play tug, chase toys, and keep her foster siblings in line. She has a quiet bark but uses it with great enthusiasm to let you know when she wants something (usually affection, a snack, or to play!). Lena’s bladder needs to be expressed a few times a day, but she’s patient, affectionate, and loves to dole out kisses while you help her. She defecates on her own and will politely whine to let you know when it’s time. She’s crate trained, sleeps soundly, and does well on car rides once she settles in. Pets & People Lena gets along well with other dogs and rules her foster pack with confidence, but she would be very happy to be your one and only. She can resource guard food or treats with other pups, so feeding separately or with supervision is recommended. She’ll bark at strangers initially but warms up quickly with a proper introduction. Lena previously lived with a young child and did fine, but due to her special needs, any children in her new home must be dachshund-savvy and know how to safely interact with a dog who has mobility issues. Health Lena is considered partially disabled due to delayed therapy after her IVDD surgery. She will benefit from an adopter willing to help her maintain her progress through continued physical therapy as well as at home exercises. Her ideal family is patient, loving, and committed to giving her the best shot at mobility. Location Lena is available for adoption from Wurtsboro, NY Please email [email protected] with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Lena is $150 .

Adopt Lena and Receive Lena's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Lena's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Lena's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Lena, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Lena's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Lena was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Lena’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Lena’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Lena’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
