About this Bird
Hatch Date: approx 2021 Buttercup (yellow female) and Bartholomew (Barty - green male) are quiet and sweet parakeet pals. Barty is interested in family life and always comes hurrying over to the cage door when someone is nearby. Buttercup is a bit more shy and will hang back and follow the lead of her braver pal after observing for a while. They are still nervous about coming out of their cage and struggle with flight around a large area. Barty is learning to perch on a finger while Buttercup is happy to hang back and watch. Both birds will perch on a hand to eat a seed snack. Both birds are on the quiet side but will chirp and chatter to each other quietly. When the large birds they share a room with scream and squawk they will occasionally join in with a louder sound. They are on a diet of pellets and a mix of vegetables and whole grains with occasional seed mix and millet as treats. Barty is very territorial around food, even going so far as stealing millet from the resident sun conure who is more than twice his size! Giving them two bowls of any food helps prevent cage squabbles. They have been disease tested for psittacosis and PBFD. Buttercup and Bartholomew are being fostered in Philadelphia, PA and will require an in-person visit before adoption; we do not ship our adoptable birds. For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA. As our adoptable birds are living in volunteer homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits. If interested in adopting Buttercup and Barty, please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org and read our adoption policies, fees and to complete an adoption application.
