About this Bird
Hatch Date: February 1994 Max is a 31-year-old DNA-tested Female Yellow Nape Amazon. Max had been with the same family since she was 9 weeks old. Sadly, her prior owners could no longer care for her. Max has been doing very well in foster, especially considering the change in environment and having met new people to coexist with. Max shows a strong preference for interacting with women. She wanted nothing to do with a couple of men she met, and readily seeks out attention from women. Max is boisterous and very comical, and loves morning greetings She will greet you as soon as you enter the room in the morning and ask you to say good morning to her. Max has a very vast vocabulary and lives to play peek-a-boo. She enjoys human interaction immensely. Out-of-cage time is significant and is something she truly enjoys! She needs a home that will allow her ample out-of-cage time. She steps up and allows short periods of head scratching. When interacting with Max, best to have her away from her cage (Safe space) We have found that she is extremely territorial when she is in her cage. This means that she is protective of her cage. Working with (handling) her away from her cage, you see a significant change in her personality for the better :) As with many Amazons (and other birds), Max does have her temperamental boundaries, and she is quite territorial over her cage. She is just starting to learn the prompt "no biting", and a small perch is used to distract her while her cage is being cleaned up. Being territorial, she is very capable of biting at this time. This is a small part of Max's personality, and she is making progress with corrections. She seems to be indifferent to the other large birds in the house. However, she does have an issue if they try to come over to her cage. She was originally in a house with a couple of dogs, but did not like them much ;) Max is currently exploring a new and healthier diet, including pellets, fruits, some vegetables, and egg whites. She was primarily on an all-seed diet most of his life. Max has been vetted and disease-tested. Max is being fostered in Howell, NJ. She will only be adopted into a forever home within driving distance. We will NOT ship our birds. For the Love of Birds is a group of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA We do not have a central location. Max is living in a volunteer's private home. We only allow approved applicants to make visits. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org.
