About this Bird
Rio is a 3-year-old female peach-faced lovebird. She is very social behind bars as she has not adjusted to human contact just yet, but with time she absolutely will. When she first came into her foster home around May 2024 she wanted nothing to do with people and would hide in the corner of her cage if you came near. This was paired with feather plucking and anxiety around loud noise. Recently though, her feathers have been brighter and growing in beautifully! She has also started to come to the front of her cage and say hi to observe what her foster family is doing. When she is out of her cage she is always exploring and flying around to places, so she need s supervision. She’s very vocal and loves to play with the other smaller foster birds in the house. She takes occasional baths but her favorite is sunbathing. Rio is a very playful bird and LOVES toys. She will spend hours playing with them and chewing them to shreds. She is currently on a seed/pellet mix diet, with fruits and veggies offered occasionally, but doesn't seem interested in them at all. Her cage gets covered at night. Rio has been disease tested for psittacosis and PBFD. Rio is being fostered in Huntington Valley, PA, and will require at least two in-person visits before adoption. We will not ship our adoptable birds. For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA. As our adoptable birds are living in volunteer homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits. If interested in adopting Rio, please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org. Please read our adoption policies and fees and complete an adoption application.

Adopt Rio and Receive Rio's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Rio's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Rio's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Rio, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Rio's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Rio was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Rio’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Rio’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Rio’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
