About this Horse
Cortana is a cute bay Quarter Horse Arabian cross who came to us in the summer of 2024. When she arrived, she was skittish and uneasy with human interaction. It took some time for her to settle in. Once she realized humans werenât too bad and she was more comfortable being handled, our trainers began her evaluation. The first thing we noticed about Cortana was that she was blind on her left side, which explained why she took so long to settle into a new place. Now that she has adapted to her new life at the Ranch, her lack of vision does not seem to affect her daily life. Upon evaluation, our trainers found that Cortana responded to bridle pressure. She backed up nicely and was fairly soft in the brindle. Upon evaluation under saddle, however, our trainers found Cortana unsafe. She was strongly opposed to being saddled, girthed, and mounted. She would kick at her belly and out behind her while our trainers worked with her. Due to these habits, her age, and her left-side blindness, we believe Cortana would do best as a pasture pet. Cortana does have a sweet side - her adopter will just need to be able to work with her and gain her trust to find it. She is a horse who enjoys spending more time with her equine buddies than her humans, but our trainers did notice that she does try to connect with her handlers during groundwork sessions. We think Cortanaâs ideal adopter is someone who just wants to add a cute little mare to their herd at home. An adopter with enough equine knowledge to work with her to become more comfortable and confident with the farrier and humans in general. Think Cortana is the right horse for you? The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the CORTANA, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming CORTANA's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and CORTANA was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, CORTANA’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the CORTANA’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, CORTANA’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
