About this Cat
Meet Groot — a playful spirit in a big, lovable body! Groot may look like a grown-up, but he’s got the heart of a kitten. He lives for toys—especially crinkly ones he can bat across the floor or proudly carry in his mouth (like in this video!). When he’s not playing, you’ll find him lounging like a pro or curiously watching the world around him (check out this video of Groot happily making biscuits). Originally found as a stray in Tennessee during hurricane season, Groot weathered flooding and shelter life before making his way to Minnesota. Despite everything he’s been through, he’s remained affectionate in his own unique way. Groot is a people-loving cat, but he’s not a lap cat and may never be. He prefers affection on his terms and doesn’t like being picked up or touched on his back legs or paws—likely due to his joint issues. He has hip dysplasia and arthritis, so he needs a calm, low-activity home with minimal stairs. He takes joint supplements and Metacam to stay comfortable and keep enjoying life. He’s good with other cats. If you’re looking for a sweet, quirky cat who will keep you company, make you smile, and thrive in a mellow home, Groot might be your guy. Apply today to meet this special boy! If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.

Adopt Groot and Receive Groot's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Groot's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Groot's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Groot, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Groot's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Groot was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Groot’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Groot’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Groot’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
