Precious wee Firkin arrived dragging her back legs behind her. We aren't sure what happened to her, but we were able to get her to gain strength in those legs over time. She still doesn't have perfect use of those legs, but she romps and plays. And Firkin has learned to leap high enough that she can pull herself up onto the sofa with her front legs. Firkin won't even be able to leap up onto a counter (at least we don't expect that), but that doesn't hold her back. This little mite had to fight her siblings for food and remains food obsessed. Firkin loves to play and snuggle with other felines. She can hold her own in the kitten wrestling matches. The little mite is outgoing and affectionate, even greeting strangers at the door at times. Firkin has been spayed and vaccinated against rabies and distemper. She is negative for both FIV and feline leukemia. For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Firkin was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Firkin’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Firkin’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Firkin’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org.
