About this Dog
Serena Joy is a beautiful and sensitive soul with a quiet strength and a big heart. Around the house, she’s a mix of playful and peaceful—running in the yard, chasing birds and squirrels, and playing with her foster dog sibling before settling down for long, calm stretches of lounging. Indoors, she’s typically low-energy and loves to stay close to her people, often curling up quietly wherever they are, from the couch to the kitchen floor to under a desk during the workday. Serena is incredibly loyal and attentive to the dogs around her, showing a sweet, nurturing side that has earned her the nickname “dog mom” in her foster home. She’s gentle, kind, and gets along well with all dog-friendly pups, especially if they match her in size or temperament. She does best with another canine companion in the home and thrives with a calm, predictable routine. Outside the home, Serena is more timid. She may seem unsure or reserved around unfamiliar people or new places, but she handles those moments quietly—standing still rather than barking or reacting aggressively. She is fearful of loud noises, sudden movements, and strangers in her space, and may bark or growl when startled or feeling protective at home. Because of this, she needs a home that can offer patience, reassurance, and a stable environment. Serena is fully potty trained and walks beautifully on a leash. She doesn’t care for the crate and will bark if confined, so she’s best in a home where she can have a safe, open space of her own. A fenced yard is important for her, as she enjoys the freedom to play and explore at her own pace. She’s not a cuddler in the traditional sense, but her constant presence and watchful companionship speak volumes. Her favorite treats are Happy Howies, and her favorite pastime is simply being near those she trusts. Serena will do best in a home with a fenced yard, a dog companion, and patient adopters who understand that love from a shy dog is something special—and well worth the wait. If you’re looking for a loyal shadow, a gentle housemate, and a true companion, Serena may be your perfect match. A note on the breed: the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is intelligent, affectionate, and eager to please. Play fetch with a tireless Toller until your right arm falls off, and he will ask you to throw left-handed. Tollers are upbeat athletes who require outlets for their boundless vigor: hunting, hiking, camping, and, of course, swimming (for which they are ideally suited, down to their webbed feet). Tollers are smart, affectionate companions, but these red tornadoes can be recommended only to those with enough time and energy to keep them usefully occupied. Those interested in the breed should have working dog breed experience or expectations to own a smart, busy breed. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Adopt Serena Joy and Receive Serena Joy's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Serena Joy's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Serena Joy's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Serena Joy, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Serena Joy's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Serena Joy was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Serena Joy’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Serena Joy’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Serena Joy’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
