About this Dog
Kiara, who we also call Good Girl, Big Girl, Yara, and Kiki Dee, was found with her snout taped shut. Can you imagine how horrifying that would have been?? The skin was torn off but the initial pink skin has now been replaced with dark skin and she's starting to get a bit of fur on the bald stripe. Despite this horrid abuse she loves people and is trusting. Kiara is a mixed breed, probably a whippet mix. She weighs 40 lbs, loves to run and play, is crazy strong, and has lots of happy young dog energy. She wants to play with the cats and other dogs here, but she's much bigger than all of them so they often don't care to join in the fun. She would love to have in her furever home a canine house and play mate who is about her size and energy level, or perhaps an older child or two. Her previous foster had older kids and she loved playing with them. Since she's so young she can be kind of rough in her play so she might not be a good fit with young children. When Kiara gets too energetic, she is asked to go in her crate and she does so nicely. She doesn't like missing out on anything so she has nylabones and toys in with her. Kiara is crated for meals (all the dogs here are) and when no one is around, but at night sleeps on the bed with the rest of the pack and me, as close up against me as possible. She can't get enough hugs and kisses. She also considers herself to be a lap dog and is good at relaxing when that's what the other dogs are doing. Kiara is housebroken. She prefers going potty on walks and always does, but will go in the yard if we haven't had time for a walk. She asks to go out by jumping straight up at the door. That's the same way she reminds us that she'd really like to go for a walk. With this recent hot weather we've sometimes been going for walks in the morning but we always walk in the evening after doggie supper and she really enjoys that. Kiara does well walking with an easy walk harness put on backwards so the ring for her leash is on her back not on the front. She is very good riding in the car, even on long rides, alternating sides looking out the windows, or lying down and resting. She is good meeting most new people but she does consistently bark at men with beards. We have been working on having Kiara "Sit," "wait," and "look at me" before going through a doorway so she doesn't go blasting through at full speed. She's definitely getting better! She has gotten good about sitting and waiting, going down stairs at a calm pace, and also at doing "touch" to get treats. She is curious and seems to enjoy learning. We have seen a lot of positive changes with the work we've been doing with Kiara and are seeing her wonderful, loving, energetic personality shine through. While she is an amazing dog and has made incredible progress since being rescued, she can sometimes be a bit reactive and display resource guarding, most likely due to the abuse she suffered in her past. We are trying to help her put that behind her. With continued training, patience, understanding, and love, we believe that she will be able to learn that she doesn't have to have these worries anymore. Kiara would love a home with a dog or two her size to run and play with, a good sized fenced yard, lots of walks, and lots of attention and affection. She's a lovely, beautiful dog with boundless love to give. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $475.00

Adopt Kiara and Receive Kiara's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Kiara's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Kiara's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Kiara, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Kiara's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Kiara was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Kiara’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Kiara’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Kiara’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
