About this Dog
Meet Sunny, the sweetheart survivor with a smile that never quits! Sunny is a 67-pound Shepherd mix who lives up to her name in every way. This young adult girl has been through a lot—she was hit by a car before arriving in foster care, and her back leg didn’t heal perfectly—but you’d never know it from her bright eyes and unstoppable spirit. She may walk with a limp and take daily medication for arthritis, but she still runs, plays and loves life like any happy, goofy pup. Sunny’s personality is just as golden as her name. She’s loving, loyal, and happiest when she's near her people—belly up for rubs or showing off her skills like sit, lay down, roll over and also giving a polite paw. She’s a toy fanatic (tug-of-war is a favorite!), adores car rides and walks, and will melt for strawberries, cucumbers, or anything edible. She has worked hard to overcome early separation anxiety and is currently on a low dose of Trazodone, which her foster family is slowly tapering. She sleeps in a special crate when alone and has learned to feel safe in it—but given the choice, she’d much rather be at your side. Sunny gets along well with dogs of all sizes and is submissive and playful with those who want to be her buddy. She would love to have a doggy sibling, but she’s also content to soak up all the love on her own. She's been respectful around cats in a temporary foster home and is likely fine with dog-savvy kids, especially those who are gentle and understanding. Despite her rough start, Sunny is full of love, light and resilience. She’s a quiet snuggler at home, a spirited adventurer on walks, and a total sweetheart to everyone she meets. If you’re looking for a devoted best friend with a heart of gold and the happiest little grin, Sunny is ready to shine in your life! *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***

Adopt Sunny and Receive Sunny's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Sunny's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Sunny's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Sunny, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Sunny's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Sunny was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Sunny’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Sunny’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Sunny’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
