About this Dog
Lucky is a handsome, confident dog who is overcoming heartbreak. He suddenly lost the only home he has ever known when his owner was severely hurt in a car accident and could no longer take care of him. And then he had to be separated from his best buddy, Mia, when they recently came into MAD Rescue. The change has been confusing, but Lucky is doing a great job of adjusting to his new life. This boy is all about the love – he is the quintessential “Velcro” Mal, who leans into his person’s body for affection. He can be touched anywhere and he just loves the attention! Belly rubs? Yes!It is clear to his foster that Lucky has spent a great deal of time in his past kept in a crate. Now when Lucky is outside, he runs around with joy and delight, savoring the experience of play and frolic, as if he has never known such freedom. He really enjoys tug but does not yet know how to play with a ball. Inside he loves to spend time cozy next to his person or even in his crate – he enjoys settling into his crate just to relax and chill, and will go into the crate with the lightest ask.Lucky is happy to be with other dogs and shows no aggression. He does need help learning boundaries with other dogs, as he will sometimes throw his body into them in play. While he is not food or toy aggressive, there have been a couple of moments when he let his know, by body language, that THIS (know what “this” is by looking at his eyes) is something important that he doesn’t want taken away. However, this occasional intensity is diminishing significantly as he is learning to trust his foster. Lucky is a confident, typical Malinois who needs leadership. If you don’t take the lead, he will take the lead. He can “read” a person (so Mal!) and if thinks he can push a bit to do what he wants, he will note that and “push” a bit to have his own way. But not with any aggressive behavior, just going “his” way. Lucky knows all basic commands and has solid recall and has the ability to go much further in his training. He responds very well to structure and leadership and is a loving, highly intelligent boywho just wants to be by his person’s side, leaning in.
