About this Dog
Meet Malibu! Available! 4-year-old Malibu came into rescue when her former owner made the difficult decision to relinquish her to rescue in order for her to find a home where her medical needs could be met. Malibu has been loved and cared for in every way but the cost for care following bladder stone surgery became a challenge. This surrender was a sacrifice of love for Malibu. She has adapted very well in foster care, getting along with all of the other small dogs in her foster home. Malibu has a dominant personality. Let's just say she came in like a boss! She has settled into the pack now and enjoys playing and cuddling with them. We think Malibu would love to have a playmate, but she could also do well as an only dog as she had thrived as the center of her former mom's world. She has the Velcro gene and will be your shadow taking any opportunity to play and snuggle, if you're into that kind of thing. She also enjoys a good chew bone. She can be quite aggressive with her chew toys so close supervision and removing them when unsupervised should be the practice in her new home. Malibu's other favored activities include watching tv, she really gets into the plot and loves a good action drama, especially with a cat or dog protagonist; car rides, buckled into her car seat, though there will be a few minutes of whining before she settles in for the trip, and dressing up! Seriously. She loves prancing around in her custom dresses from her foster mom's wardrobe. She is still deciding how she feels about cats; she will bark when seeing one, but mainly out of curiosity. Malibu can startle with sudden loud noises, we feel she'll do best with children aged 5 and older. She has been very gentle and loves to play with the young boy in her foster home. Malibu enjoys her walks but can pull on the leash and she is strong. Loose leash training with her prescription kibble for treats should help with this. She is house trained, and doing great, but may have a transitional accident or two. Malibu is currently sleeping in the dog bed with the other dogs, but we are pretty sure she would love to snuggle up with her people in the big bed given the opportunity. She knows the sit, stay and give paw commands. Malibu has had some health issues in the past to include recent surgery for bladder stones. She has completed a course of antibiotics for a resistant organism in her urine and the infection has cleared! She eats a prescription food Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Adult Urinary SO Moderate Calorie Dry Dog Food with 2 heaping spoons of the canned version. The cost will be approximately $90/month. Currently the recommendations for monitoring her urinary status are as follows: Submit urine for urinalysis, culture and sensitivity every 3-6 months to monitor ph and urine concentration and to catch any infections early. X-rays every 6-12 months to catch any stone formation. Cranberry supplement to keep e-coli from adhering to the bladder wall. Crananidin one brand on Chewy runs $50 for a 75-day supply. The veterinary costs associated with this care may vary based on your geographical location. There is also a chance that frequency of the above diagnostics may be reduced over time if she remains stable, but her adopters must be committed to continued care and adherence to veterinary recommendations. Malibu has had a history of itching/allergies that has been treated with Apoquel and more recently Cytopoint Injections. Thus far in our care she has not exhibited any skin issues but is being closely monitored. Malibu was treated for pneumonia in January after her bladder stone surgery. Her lungs are now clear. She has a luxating patella on the left which doesn't require intervention at present. Do you think you are ready to welcome this delightful, happy, sweet and sassy beautiful girl into your heart? Adopt Malibu and Receive Malibu's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Malibu's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Malibu's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Malibu, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Malibu's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Malibu was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Malibu’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Malibu’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Malibu’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
