DESCRIPTION: 'Dashing Deacon’ was found prancing along the streets as a stray. Deacon is a devilishly handsome (possible SuperModel status) fella who is a two-and-a-half-year-old stunner of a long-haired black and red GSD looking for his ‘fur-ever’ family. Over time we have had the chance to get to know Deacon. With this knowledge has come a strong understanding of just how clever this boy is (and how much of a natural leader he is!). As a result, Deacon will only be placed with an experienced and assertive handler to help him become a strong, confident, and obedient companion. This striking boy has a strong personality and appreciates clear guidance from his people. Though he can be willful when he knows what he wants, Deacon is ready to channel his charm into becoming a model canine citizen. Already equipped with a solid training foundation, Deacon is looking for someone who will continue that training to build a confident and healthy bond. In fact, Deacon already knows his basic commands and then some. He can't wait to continue this process and may even be a good match for agility, fly ball, or scent work. As a young, active shepherd, Deacon is looking for a family that can exercise his body and his mind on a daily basis. True of all shepherds, pent up energy can result in unwanted behaviors. He is the epitome of the saying - "A tired dog is a good dog." Excited to match with a family that will provide daily opportunities to run, play, and train, Deacon will thrive with a routine that provides mental enrichment. Well versed with a variety of toys, this majestic fluffball absolutely loves soccer balls, lacrosse balls, squeaky balls, textured balls, really any ball he can chase and chew on! He also loves bones.. but sometimes he needs an extra reminder or two when asked to give them back! Deacon loves playing tug of war with his toys, wrestling with his humans, and he even does great at doggy day care. However, as is true of all dogs, it is important that Deacon develop relationships with other dogs in controlled settings over a period of time. From time to time, Deacon is surprised by sudden movements and sounds; this often results in anxiety. With a clear understanding of Deacon's energy level and needs, his ideal match will not live in a city or busy neighborhood. A calmer, less hectic environment is key to Deacon's success. He prefers this type of environment to feel safe and secure. While the city-slickin' life may not be for him, we know he has the ability to thrive in a quieter, more spacious environment. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Deacon was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Deacon’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Deacon’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Deacon’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org.
