About this Dog
Tennessee is an 11 month old, neutered male, medium sized mixed breed under 50lbs. He may have some Mountain Cur or Lab in him. We call him an All American Mix. He is a good looking dog who needs a dog savvy person who knows how to read what he is feeling and someone who is familiar with dog training. If only Tennessee could tell us his story, we might understand why he is so untrusting of new people. He seems to remember a reason to be cautious. Now that said, once he knows and bonds with you, he is your best friend and remembers you. Tennessee is a lost soul and he is looking for someone to call his own. He has bonded with us here, but he doesn’t know which one of us he is supposed to look for. He is vocal when left alone, so no apartments/condos/townhomes for this guy. He tries to get us to come to his cage by barking because he is so uncomfortable being alone. Tennessee has so much to learn and he acts like a puppy. Once he knows you, he is active and friendly. He loves attention and prefers to be right by your side, like a shadow. He jumps up a lot and can be rough trying desperately to get your attention. He would do best with some basic puppy training to help him. He is very unsure of new places and people. He prefers to stay with his person. He is not a social butterfly as they say. If someone new comes over, he will need a slow introduction to them so he can get used to them being around. He is also learning to be around other dogs too. He has made a couple doggy friends at the shelter. If you have another dog at home, you can bring them by to see if they will be a good match. In the right hands, Tennessee will make a lovely companion. He loves to go for his leash walks and would love to go hiking with you. (No first time dog owners for this boy.) He is very easy to train if you are dog savvy and he loves to hear “Good Boy”. It has been fun training him and has been heartwarming to see him go from “so scared” to “Please pet me!” once he got to know us. He has started going up to meet new people if they are quiet, gentle and sit down. You can visit this pet during our Animal Viewing Hours below.
