About this Dog
Sweetie is a 7 old female Dachshund who weighs in at 9 pounds. This dog's adoption fee is $300. If you are still interested, please read more below. Sweetie, one look, one snuggle, and that was her name. She’s a love. This 7-year old miniature, long-haired, dapple Dachshund came to ARF from a puppy mill breeder. She weighs 9.2 pounds and is at a healthy weight. When she arrived at her foster home in June, it quickly became apparent that she was having some difficulty with her back which showed when she tried to run or sit. While she showed no signs of being in pain, she did not have good control of her back legs. She could walk and trot just fine. If you are interested in more information on her condition, please follow the link to information on Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4953012 This is a common condition in Dachshunds. For Sweetie it meant several weeks of “crate rest,” meaning she spent her days in her crate or being held/carried. We are happy to say that she is doing so much better. Her run is still more of a bunny hop than a running gait. She may have relapses in her lifetime requiring periods of “crate rest” or in an emergency, the consideration of back surgery. If you are still interested, please read on! She does well in her crate. She rides well in a car. She is working on house training and does not have accidents when taken outside regularly. She does not know how to walk on a leash. Mostly she likes to bite the leash. She loves snuggling and sunbathing (inside or out). She is funny and silly and loves to run in circles and scamper. She should not be in an apartment as she does love to alert you to anything she deems necessary. As a Dachshund, that is many things you cannot even see, it’s a good thing she is there to let you know!! She did have to have several teeth removed. Her mouth is all healed and, although she is currently eating canned food, she should be able to eat kibble. She loves soft treats! She did have an ear infection when she arrived and has been treated for that as well. She will be available for adoption to someone who understands the risk of continued IVDD. Sweetie is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations and spayed. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.

Adopt Sweetie and Receive Sweetie's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Sweetie's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Sweetie's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Sweetie, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Sweetie's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Sweetie was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Sweetie’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Sweetie’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Sweetie’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
