About this Dog

Hello. I am in hopes that if you are unable to help me, you might be able to refer me somewhere that can. I adopted a 4 month old male GSD mix from the shelter almost three months ago (he's now 6 months old). Jax is a beautiful, quirky pup, but it is becoming clear he has some special needs. He has been to the vet numerous times in the past couple months as well as had consults with three different behavioral trainers. Primarily, he paces in circles continuously. Even when playing or going for a walk he is unable to stop circling. This is not 'tail chasing'. He paces in clockwise circles of varying size, depending on the space currently available. When I physically try to stop him (even with a treat), he becomes incredibly agitated. The vet is unsure if this is caused from something genetic or behavioral. Without expensive tests it cannot really be determined. He is on Prozac for anxiety, but I can't really say that I have noticed a very big difference after two months. The constant wear on his rear "pivot" leg is beginning to cause physical problems making him favor that leg, and impacting his disposition (he's very crabby when his leg hurts). I had a full set of x-rays done to rule out anything with his hips or leg bones. He DESPERATELY needs socialization...both with humans and other dogs. This is an enormous problem for me as I live alone with no other pets. When he does see other people or dogs he begins spinning frantically. Walks are incredibly difficult even after two months. He is simply not approachable. Using a bite collar to try to calm him in these moments requires major correction. It's very sad. I have taken him to doggie daycare simply for socialization, but my income cannot sustain this expense, and I cannot get a second dog. He does NOT like to be touched. He will tolerate it on rare occasions, but only for a short time, and he absolutely lets you know when he's had enough. He has snapped at me several times for this. He goes way beyond puppy behavior with chewing. I can no longer give him toys made of any kind of fabric or rope materials. He eats them. Completely. He also eats (not simply chews up) sticks, rocks, pretty much anything he gets ahold of. It's become an obsession with him, and close watch over literally anything that he could fit in his mouth. This problem is amplified by the facts that 1. he develops MAJOR resource guarding when he gets something, and 2. The speed which he gulps it down (whole) is not to be believed without seeing. There is no doubt in my mind we are eventually going to have major problems with this. I have had to give him peroxide to throw things up several times (when I noticed right away), and other times have stressed out waiting for it to pass through. He is very easily startled, and sometimes becomes aggressive in these moments.I am questioning if he may also have vision problems. I am retired on a fixed income. This is my "first puppy", and I am in over my head. I understood the time and cost involved in taking in a furry roommate, but I was not at all prepared for a special needs puppy. I am very concerned that I will not be able to maintain the expenses that have come with this pup. Also, because he has lunged at me so many times (and bitten a few of those occasions) I have become somewhat fearful of his unpredictable behavior. This is extending to further training problems. I know what his fate would be if I returned him to the shelter, and will NOT do that. However, I do feel I need to accept the fact that I need to find him a more suitable home with other dogs, and someone who has more experience than me. I am broken hearted in coming to this realization, but I care enough about him that I must acknowledge that I don't feel I am able to meet his needs, and am trying to make every attempt to find someone that can. Please let me know if you are able to assist, or can give me a recommendation. I will drive wherever I need to if it can help him, or to get to a forever home that will accommodate his needs.

Adopt Jax and Receive Dogecoin

Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Jax's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised. Dogecoin is digital currency that can be exchanged for cash, traded, or held as an investment (see the "What is Dogecoin" section below).

How will Jax receive the Dogecoin?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. If you adopted the Jax, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Jax's Dogecoin here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the Dogecoin by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Jax was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Jax’s Dogecoin balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
