About this Dog
Poppy was born around the beginning of May 2022 and weighs in at about 35 pounds. She has a beautiful chestnut-colored coat and appears to be a Shepherd-mix of some kind. She is sweet, smart and playful and is a regular dog in every way except that she moves differently and wears a diaper. Poppy was born with a congenital defect in her hip joints and then was mistreated and has damage in her lower spine. She gets around independently in the house and yard and uses her cart for longer walks outside. Her version of the zoomies is just adorable! She plays and wrestles with the resident dogs in her foster home so would do well in a home with a playful dog or dogs. Poppy gets around the house, including short runs of steps on her own. She goes outside to do her business on a schedule, but wears a washable diaper to catch any leaks and messes. She does not require bladder or bowel expression, just enough time and movement to get her business done. Poppy’s ideal family will be one that is not gone long hours of the day since she cannot control her bladder and bowels. Access to the backyard will be easiest with few or even no steps. She has gone to doggie daycare and loves playtime with other dogs. Poppy is an amazingly sweet pup and deserves to have a wonderful life with a family of her own. Even if you have no experience with a special needs dog, Starfish’s foster will show you how to take care of Poppy and will be there to answer questions. Poppy is really not difficult to care for and she will be adopted out with all of her gear (washable diapers, diaper suspenders, waterproof and washable bedding, her dog bed, her cart, etc.) If you are interested, please submit an application and have an introductory call with Poppy’s foster mom to learn about Poppy’s day-to-day care. Perhaps you will find that adopting a special needs dog is in your comfort zone, within your abilities, and something you want to do. There is next to nothing more rewarding than helping these most vulnerable pups! The adoption fee of $100 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! If you are interested in adopting/meeting , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.

Adopt Poppy and Receive Poppy's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Poppy's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Poppy's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Poppy, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Poppy's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Poppy was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Poppy’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Poppy’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Poppy’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
