About this Dog
Meet Rio, a 2-year-old Pit Bull mix who tips the scales at 60 pounds—just the right size for adventure and cuddles alike. This good-natured, patient boy spent months as a stray in Southern Illinois, waiting for a rescue to give him a chance. Despite being left to fend for himself and waiting an entire month just to get an open kennel, Rio’s gentle, happy personality never wavered. Rio is a total people-lover who lights up when meeting new friends. His joyful spirit comes through whether he’s trotting beside you on a walk, hopping into the car for a ride, or tossing around his favorite tennis balls and rope toys. He enjoys being outdoors, especially if he has a person to keep him company. While toys are his favorite reward, Rio also appreciates praise and affection from his humans. At the shelter, Rio keeps a spotless kennel and appears to be housebroken. He’s polite on the leash, non-destructive, and trustworthy—making him a wonderful companion for both playtime and downtime. During his time in Southern Illinois, he even earned the title of "best babysitter" after two German Shepherd puppies repeatedly broke into his pen just to hang out with him. With his sweet “panda face” and happy-go-lucky attitude, Rio is more than ready to find his forever home. Reportedly dog-friendly and showing great social skills at the shelter, he’s a gentle giant with a heart of gold, waiting for someone to share life’s adventures with. His minimum adoption fee is $200 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives. Adopt Rio and Receive Rio's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Rio's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Rio's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Rio, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Rio's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Rio was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Rio’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Rio’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Rio’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
