About this Dog

Ambrosia was adopted from the CACC in Chicago appx 5 years ago and she was about 3-4 years old then. She was playing with this huge dog bigger than her having a great day and I just saw her and fell in love. Ambrosia comes from a previously abusive environment prior to adoption. When I adopted her it took a lot of trust. To pet her she needs to see your hand first and maybe let her come to you for the first few weeks. She likes to be reassured somewhere is safe, if she's in public or to come outside if you kneel down she will come to you on her own and outside. She doesn't like walking through tight spaces or walkways/hallways that she cant see a straight path down where brooms or anything is blocking her path. She is house potty trained with a new home she may need some basic training again for new routine . She likes being outside, laying down in the sun, she like slaying on hard surfaces and sleeping on soft ones, loves to play in the snow, and she enjoys her alone time even sometimes under the bed. She's older so play time is not a long, long time with her compared to BabyBoy, her brother. She is fixed btw. She is extremely loving just remember she has come from an abusive past so yelling loud noises sometimes scare her especially fireworks. She does not like being left alone in a car for any long period of time like past 5-10 mins. She is ok with road trips for hours. She does not really get along with dogs that are smaller than her because of the sound of their bark. She gets along with most other dogs. Show her your hand and sit with her for a while and you will see her love and respect very fast. She likes treats. She does not like showers she gets a bath once a week I always have to carry her to the tub but then afterwards once she is dried off she is like a 6 month old puppy, happy as all day light. I take her to Pet'smart for nail grinding NOT cut. Her nails are clear and most groomers cut her too close to her blood vessels so just a normal grind and she may need to be muzzled for that part so please inform the groomer and inform them of the hand first before petting. She knows how to play and lick hands and not bite she does sometimes have to be told no biting as she likes to play nibble and she will know to look for your hand to say sorry. She likes belly rubs and being pet and she is a spoiled lady, once you start petting her she doesn't want you to stop. It's funny when you pet her she sits still because she wasn't raised prior to adoption being pet so she sits still and then when you stop she uses her nose to nudge you like hey don't stop or she'll do tricks like rolling over to try to get more pets. She does like her shoulders blades scratched on her back. She knows how to sit. She likes bones, Good n Fun brand the big ones. Dry purina dog food for sensitive stomach and coat. She uses a body harness. She likes cuddling with blankets, she likes the fan on her and any fresh breeze. Ambrosia does get startled easy because of her past and she doesn't like loud coughing. She does shed a bit so you will have white hairs everywhere for laundry I just get the pet lint sheets from bounty and it keeps the hair away for the most part or a good anti shedding shampoo as well, I shop for her things at chewy.com . She does listen to commands such as sit, stay, stop, no biting, play nice, good girl, no, bad, I love you etc.

How will Ambrosia receive the contribution?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Ambrosia, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Ambrosia's contribution here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Ambrosia was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Ambrosia’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.

What happens to unclaimed funds?

We want the Ambrosia’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Ambrosia’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
