About this Dog

For backstory, my journey with Kobe began back in late August 2023. I met Kobe after multiple instances of him roaming the street. One of those times I was able to coax him with food to get him food, water, and off the street. I fostered him while searching for his family. Long story short, I found his owner (who turned out to live 2 doors down) and got him home, but he continued to get out. In conversations with the owner, it was made clear Kobe was not a priority. The owner claimed he was destructive, and he had become "too much" for her. However, it was my goal to try to support the family in finding a way to keep Kobe in the home so that he didn't end up back in a shelter. Sadly, the last time Kobe got out (at the end of October 2023), I knew I had to step in for Kobe's own safety. He had become severely malnourished (about 35 lbs when he should weigh about the 50 lbs he does now), had a few deep cuts around his paws, and had feces dried on him. I immediately texted the owner to confirm I could take Kobe home with me, and I began the process of transferring ownership to myself to avoid her fighting me on ownership at a later date. I have been fostering Kobe since and searching for either another foster or, ideally, a permanent home for Kobe. Unfortunately, I can’t keep him as I already have a dog, my work travel has picked up, and I don't have the resources to keep him. Throughout the above process I learned that his previous owner got him when he was a puppy from a shelter. He's microchipped, neutered, and a mixed breed, and he’s 2 years old and 49 lbs. I don't have any medical records for him prior to his time with me, but I'm happy to provide my vet records for him. While his previous owner said he was destructive, our experience with him has all pointed to a dog with puppy energy starved of love and attention. He's a smart boy that is very trainable. He’s house-trained. He knows "sit" and "down," although he does best when hand signals are paired with the verbal commands. Kobe now sits and waits to be "released" before eating. If interested, I believe Kobe would do great with agility training and/or dock jumping! He's a very bouncy and active boy! I crate Kobe when I'm not home because he has separation anxiety. He loves people and dogs! He loves to be loved and get attention! However, I don’t recommend a home with cats for Kobe as I’ve seen him chase cats in the neighborhood. Also, while Kobe does well with all people from my experience, he will do best with older children (8+) only because he's such a lover and can be a jumper. He may accidentally knock over a younger child. Kobe would do best in a home in which he will have a lot of interaction with people and/or bigger kids and/or a dog who appreciates his enthusiasm. I have not witnessed any signs of aggression in Kobe. Kobe is eager for food, but he has not displayed any signs of food aggression or resource guarding with toys and treats. He loves blankets, cuddles, and naps on the couch with his humans. I've also more recently learned that he loves to burrow whether that means crawling under the covers or burying his favorite toy. I found him yesterday nudging dirt over his new bone! He’s very food motivated, unsurprisingly, and loves chew toys. I've found that when he has a human nearby and access to toys that are okay for him to chew, he's amazing at switching between keeping himself busy with his toys and then taking a nap near his human(s).

How will Kobe receive the Dogecoin?

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. If you adopted the Kobe, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Kobe's Dogecoin here.

For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the Dogecoin by submitting the necessary information.

The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the Dogecoin. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Kobe was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Kobe’s Dogecoin balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.

What happens to unclaimed funds?

We want the Kobe’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Kobe’s balance will remain in our general Dogecoin fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org.
