About this Dog
Lucy has been with us since early December. She was placed with us needing a foster home where she could enjoy undivided attention while receiving supplemental treatment for a nutritional deficiency. We successfully treated her thiamin deficiency for three months, strengthening her heart so she would be strong enough for spay surgery. During this time, we evaluated her dominant disposition and aggressive behavior. She quickly learned, with the correct motivation and reinforcement, that she had rules and boundaries. She is a smart girl and eager to please. She walks easily on a leash but gets distracted when she sees other animals. She knows her name and hears you, but if she gets focused on something she will ignore everything else. She must be walked by someone prepared to "handle" her when she is walked on leash. This is easily managed by staying attentive to the surroundings on outings and redirecting early before the distracting catches her attention. She does NOT do well off leash; she will run if she sees something she wants to catch. She must be in an enclosed space if she is off leash. She is a good hunter and has a very strong prey drive; she becomes hyper-focused on cats, squirrels, and lizards. She is crate trained and enjoys time in her crate and goes in and out at her leisure. She is happy to be in whatever room her humans are in and can be clingy if she is isolated for too long. She believes she is a lap dog but understands personal boundaries. She is a very cuddly girl. She will get on furniture if invited but often times prefers the floor so she can stretch out. She sleeps in an uncovered enclosure at night and will not get out until let out. She could jump over but does not. She is a serious counter-surfer. On a scale of amateur to expert, she gets 5 stars! She can take food out of a pan still cooking on the stove without making a sound! She is wonderful with children. She barks momentarily at strangers coming into the home until they speak to her. She watches the front door and barks at anyone in "her territory" until I tell her to hush (delivery drivers, mailman, yard workers, walkers, etc.)! She barks at the fence line to the dogs in the yard on the other side. She has tons of energy and would love to play. She bounds out into the yard every time she is let out. She rides in cars comfortably and travels well. She handles grooming well, including nails and bathing. She gets bored with all the brushing and turns into a rag doll because she would rather lay down than stand the whole time!

Adopt Lucy and Receive Lucy's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Lucy's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.
$0.0 is Lucy's current balance
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Lucy, thank you for providing a home and a loving family!
Please begin the process of claiming Lucy's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Lucy was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Lucy’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Lucy’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Lucy’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
