About this Cat
Maui is a gorgeous, young adult grey-and-black striped tabby cat located in Waterbury, CT. His previous owners became homeless, but a kind neighbor in my building took him into our hallway to prevent him from ending up on the streets. I eventually took over his full-time care because he learned to trust us.
Maui is currently experiencing an urgent medical and behavioral crisis. He is unneutered, and neighbors frequently leave the building's doors and windows open, allowing him to slip outside daily so I just let him go outside or he paces and paces and becomes frustrated. I make sure he doesn't go out at night. He recently returned with a severely swollen cheek, which is likely a painful fight abscess or insect sting. He is also suffering from intense spinal rippling and frantic tail-biting, which are classic signs of Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome or a severe flea allergy picked up from his outdoor excursions.
Because Maui is in extreme physical pain and highly hormonal, he shows fear-aggression to strangers and protects himself if touched anywhere near his sensitive lower back or tail. He is generally terrified of men, but because of the deep bond we share, he has learned to completely trust both me and my husband. He deeply loves receiving head, neck, and cheek scratches from us. However, due to his pain, he will not allow us to groom him or trim his claws, and he currently has a strong urine odor common with intact males. Crucially, because he trusts us, we are able to safely get him into a standard cat carrier ourselves, meaning a rescue group will not need to humanely trap him for transport.
With the New England winter approaching in a few months, Maui desperately needs a specialized no-kill rescue partner or medical foster who can intake him completely, rehabilitate him, and find him a permanent indoor home. He requires an organization that can administer sedated medical care for his cheek and parasite issues, neuter him, and handle his necessary grooming/nail trim while he is safely asleep. Getting him neutered will completely eliminate his biological drive to escape outdoors, resolve his pain-induced defensiveness, and allow him to safely blossom into a loving indoor pet.

Adopt Maui and Receive Maui's Fund
Adopting a pet can be expensive, and we're trying to help by fundraising for each individual in need of adoption. After verifying the adoption, Maui's new family will receive the funds that their pet has raised.

How will Maui receive the contribution?
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. If you adopted the Maui, thank you for providing a home and a loving family! Please begin the process of claiming Maui's contribution here.
For adoptions in which nokillnetwork.org was the matchmaker and we have contact information for both parties, we make every effort to contact the adopting family. For adoptions that were not facilitated by nokillnetwork.org, we still encourage the adopting family to claim the contribution by submitting the necessary information.
The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Maui was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Maui’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
What happens to unclaimed funds?
We want the Maui’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Maui’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
