About this Dog
General Notes | Walter is truly a special soul. He's also a sharp cookie, boasting impressive training that makes him a joy to live with. He is sweet as they come if you are one of his people, and deserves the best home ever! Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP. Personality | Walter is an introvert at heart. He is also extremely intuitive. As the kids say, Walter goes off 'vibes'. He likes who he likes, and on the opposite spectrum, if he gets a feeling that he is not safe or welcomed, he will not want to interact. Walter is a loyal, loving, goofy, smart, kind-hearted lab. He deserves the absolute best - which includes an adopter who understands he needs to be checked in with routinely to see how he is coping and doing within any environment he is brought into, and never forced into situations that may make him feel unsafe.Story | Walter was found as a stray with his brother, Pluto, in Texas. He doted on his brother and was always watching over him, even when brought into a shelter. While in the shelter he watched over several other dogs and saw himself as their protector. His brother was adopted upon arrival in Colorado, and without a 'job' to do, and in a new place, Walter had to re-learn what was expected of him. For the first time in his life he has been able to relax and learn how to be a dog - and boy does he love toys and belly rubs!Other Dogs | Walter has the potential to make a great canine companion with thoughtful and proper introductions.Cats | Walter is not good with cats.Children | A home with older children who understand and respect boundaries is possible. Walter has been around kids, although is used to being the center of attention - and thrives when able to have lots of 1 on 1 time to keep up with his training!Training | Walter is a graduate of obedience school, knowing his "place" command like a pro. He's a master of the crate and completely potty trained as well. Walter is highly food and treat motivated, making continued learning a breeze! As recommended with all dogs, Walter does best with slow and steady introductions to new people and new animals. To set any adopter up for continued success, Walter's adoption includes three valuable training sessions with his current expert!Leash | Walks on a leash are a dream with this perfectly mannered boy.Activity Level | Walter has been enjoying jogging sessions with his trainer as of late, although he is also perfectly happy to nap on your feet and have a lazy day with you!Health Notes | Walter is heartworm positive, but treatment is very successful and completely manageable with all the proper education. MHLRM will cover the expense of treatment at one of our approved veterinarians. Heartworm positive dogs go on to live happy, normal lives after treatment and rarely experience long-term side effects. Don't let this stop you from adopting this handsome boy!Thank you! | Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. The adopting family is the only party eligible to receive the contribution. The adopting family will be required to provide proof of adoption between 4-6 weeks after adoption. This is to ensure that the home is a good match and Paisley / Walter was not returned. After we have verified the adoption, Paisley / Walter’s balance will be sent to the adopting family. Our staff provides instructions and help throughout this process.
We want the Paisley / Walter’s balance to go to the adopting family as a way to say thank you for providing a loving home and to help with pet care expenses. In the unfortunate event we cannot contact them and verify the adoption, Paisley / Walter’s balance will remain in our general fund. This fund may be used to match contributions made to other adoptable pets, incentify other adoption-related actions, promote our mission, or support the operating expenses of nokillnetwork.org. If you would like to make a direct contribution to nokillnetwork.org to help us help other pets in need, you can go here. We appreciate your generosity and help!
